    Drinking alcohol? (Cider)

At uni I used to work from a rule of thumb that the alcohol would start being processed by my liver in fifteen mins and then 'should' be done one hour after the first drink. Pacing out he drinks and always having a slice of brown toast (or other long acting carbs) before lightly blousing if my...

    Depigmentation at injection sites

As a vain teen I did target tan my vitiligo away (putting sunscreen everywhere else apart from on it) and it seems to have held out.. but ofc that won't work if there is 0 pigmentation!

    How long did it take?

Probably only quite recently.. in terms of fully being at ease with it, in the last few years, but then again I am a diabetic and that's part of who I have always been.. I think the weird thing with being diagnosed before I remember is I never had a chance really to accept that I had diabetes...

    Bleeding when injecting insulin

I know the look well! At least it isn't too hard to get out!

    Drowning, not waving.

@LornaO My mother said when I was diagnosed (as a toddler) she was really helped by some of the diabetes UK information days and local groups. Have you had a chance to take a look at these?

    More sensitive to highs!

hello!! Hope this is the right place, I was just feeling super high earlier, took my bg and it was 12 going up slowly - this is such a big moment for me as it feels like my body is no longer used to being high! I used to not feel highs until it was over 18, and although my Hb1ac is better than...

Do I need 3 months of bg levels to apply for a driving licence?

@tim2000s @catapillar @james11 thank you! I couldn't find anything online about it so thought I would ask just to double check!

    Disabled Student Allowance (Postgraduate)

@Maz44 @EllsKBells DSA for diabetics (based on my experience) will be a potential laptop, voice recorder, printer/scanner and software to convert pictures into text and utilise voice recordings of lectures. I also received £400 for printing and book costs every year of my undergraduate degree...

Do I need 3 months of bg levels to apply for a driving licence?

I met with the registrar of my doctor and he mentioned that if I am applying for a driving licence I need to show three months worth of finger prick tests for the licence itself.... I mainly use my libre and am aiming to pass my test in December so do I need to start doing tests again? I've only...

Can bottled water be taken on airplane in hand luggage

If you have a doctors note you can travel with surgery drinks! I normally fly with a carton of juice just in case I can't get something in the airport/emergency and although I have to wait a little longer in the security queue I've always been allowed it.

What to do after so long?

Hi @bexblu ! I was in a similar position a few years ago. I was diagnosed aged 2, then aged 13-20 it was chaos. I remember (and still do sometimes) feeling so overwhelmed with how bad everything was and how much I had to change. The only thing that has really really changed things for me is how...

    Siblings and Type1

Inn the only type 1 in my family, my sister is a year and a half younger and doesn't have it. My grandfather has type 2 but his is a classic case of being exceptionally overweight. Weirdly enough, both my uncles who are of no blood relation have type 1 (one diagnosed when he was two and the...

The man with the disappearing Type 1. An update...

This is going to sound really new wavey but my mother mentioned that the moves in yoga with twisting your body helps to stimulate your organs and supposedly helps clear out toxins (not sure if there is a scientific basis to this...) but sounds very similar! Maybe I will do my own test, start...

    Depigmentation at injection sites

@Westley do you have this anywhere else (arm pits etc) ? I've had vitiligo for years and it does fade, although remember to put on more sunscreen if you're out in the sun as it will burn faster!

Getting back on track (or not!?)

I had mono at university! Basically slept and ate soup for four weeks as I was knocked out. It was a struggle with my insulin and as it hurt to eat solid food I ended up running high for the start as I was really scared of hypos. However, as all I ate was the same soup it was really easy to dose...

    Freestyle Libre

Most likely, not for the foreseeable future. As they are already trying to cut back on prescription expenses by using cheaper bg strips and needles, highly unlikely they will be able to find the funding to give the freestyle libre out. Maybe in a few years for specialised cases but I am not...

    Flying with spare freestyle libre

hi all! Am having a mind blank as to whether I've ever flown with a freestyle libre in hand luggage and am concerned it may cause issues at security. Abbott have told me it should be fine as long as I don't put it in the hold, but I can't get through to an airport helpline as there's no real...
