Does over eating give you Type 2 diabetes or does diabetes make you over eat

That's what Taylor writes in the very first sentance of the cited paper: "Reversal of type 2 diabetes to normal metabolic control by either bariatric surgery or hypocaloric diet allows for the time sequence of underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms to be observed." That was based on the 2011...

Does over eating give you Type 2 diabetes or does diabetes make you over eat

Roy Taylor accepts that it does not cover all situations and mentions the exceptions in the Reversing Type 2 Diabetes FAQ but otherwise that is what he proposes in the cited paper: "Evidence linking hepatic insulin sensitivity to intraorgan triglyceride content has been steadily accumulating...

    Hospital food concern.

Hummm. I wondered about that when I was in for several weeks. I decided that the jam sponge and custard was worse. They used to come round and measure my BG. A couple of times, they took it whilst I was eating my meal! I explained that, if they didn't do it systematically, the readings would be...

Laughed at for wanting test strips

I saw one doctor after another at the GP surgery. I went complaining about things like breathlessness and diffculty sleeping and got fobbed off with things like, 'well I get breathless too when I start to walk' and, try to be more active during the day, that'll help you sleep'. So as advised, I...

Newly Diagnosed and on long term steroids, need help!

You don't need to go hungry and you can keep the carbs low by learning about foods. Preparing your own meals, if you have the time, can ensure that you eat the right stuff but also, the simple act of preparing it in the first place, eases those hunger pangs. This lamb and barley stew was the...

    New Type 2. Had pancreatitis.

No, but you should really see your GP quickly or at the very least call the NHS on 111. If your GP can't see you or if it's out of hours, go to A&E. That's more than acceptable when it comes to pain. Despite all the negatives about the NHS, they do react quickly to people with pain.

    New Type 2. Had pancreatitis.

It's was a hospital aquired infection. Originally on the surface of the skin but then started to get inside the wound. There are about 2500 to 3000 per month in the NHS. Most are not serious and easily treated but as an ICD has electrical leads which go up the veins and into the heart, they...

    New Type 2. Had pancreatitis.

I can't comment on the antibiotics. Usually, for me, they start to work within a day or two but when my ICD implant went manky, oral antibiotics still hadn't worked after two weeks, so I ended up in hosital being given "the good stuff", introvenously for 30 mins, three times per day. I was on...

    New Type 2. Had pancreatitis.

Strictly speaking, it had to be two separate readings on two separate days for a diagnosis: "Fasting Plasma Glucose Test The FPG test is used to detect diabetes and prediabetes. The FPG test has been the most common test used for diagnosing diabetes because it is more convenient than the OGTT...

    New Type 2. Had pancreatitis.

No. Not at all but it is a typical remark. I went into hospital with ventricular tachycardia in August and was there most of September and into October. I noticed on the patient notes that the sheet which kept a record of BG levels, which they always call BM levels, was divided into 5 sections...

    Moving on to insulin

It is easier to buy the right foods and prepare healthy meals when you have time. I could only do so because I was semi retired and worked from home. Herbs and spices are a godsend and you can make prawns and tomatoes into a chinese, east asian, indian or mediterranean meal just by a couple of...

Does over eating give you Type 2 diabetes or does diabetes make you over eat

It's just one part of the process. Some of the most recent research is done at Newcastle University. They have kindly made their paper Type 2 Diabetes Etiology and Reversibility publically available. You are right with what you say; from the paper: "However, because the process of de novo...

Does over eating give you Type 2 diabetes or does diabetes make you over eat

I can't agree with that. I was overeating for a couple of decades and all my blood tests, done regularly because of a heart condition, showed normal levels. I then gave up smoking and substituted cigs with mint imperials. That's when I got diabetes. The problem is that everyone's metabolism is...

    Moving on to insulin

Congratulations on the impressive weight loss. Substantial as it is however, it may not be enough yet. If you want to read the science, see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3609491/ but all you really need to know with regard to this aspect is one quote "The extent of weight loss...

    hbA1c results, and some advice?

I was diganosed with dilated cardiomyopathy with a severe ventricular dysfunction in 2002. They told me they could control it but it wasn't curable. To everyone's suprise, it returned to normal in 18 months. 'We don't normally see this' was the official line. Well it came back in 2015 but this...

    High sugars - help please!

I had good control for three years and then a long spell in hospital involving hospital food, strong antibiotic drips 3 times per day, heart medication which can raise BG levels and so on and I came out back in diabetic territory. Getting back into my old diet which served me well didn't make a...

    Moving on to insulin

I can understand that you are feeling down. I have had good control for 3 years now but I ended up in hospital with a heart problem, eating hospital food, not being able to exercise and having been on an antibiotic drip 3 times per day and some heart drug which can raise BG levels, I now find...

Reply from Tesco re no low carb bread..

I recommend the book, Bread Matters, for those who wish to bake. Many breads of course are not suitable for diabetics but this book tells you how to make breads using less refined flours and use things like sourdoughs. Alternatively, f you want to buy, try the Real Bread Finder. Same thing...
