Type 1 Best cool bag for chilling insulin on flight to Spain

I'm one of those that prefers a vacuum flask. I use a Hydro Flask with a cool pack for my insulin for travel and extreme weather. I don't freeze the Hydroflask or cool pack, just cool them in the fridge. The 591ml/20oz Hydro Flask fits insulin pens, and the 354ml/12oz easily fits vials and...

    Smell

I noticed the smell of insulin more when I was first diagnosed and since I only bolused before meals, I would feel more hungry or salivate at the smell of insulin. :p I wasn't salivating 'at' the insulin, but because I knew if I was bolusing, food was coming. I only occasionally notice the...

Using upper buttocks for Infusion Set

I use arms and don't have any awkwardness with tubing running down to my waist, where I keep my pump. I'm quite short and I use 60cm tubing. I only place my infusion set above my CGM on my arm. If it was placed below the CGM, there would be a lot of slack to get caught on things, but above it...

Using upper buttocks for Infusion Set

I use my upper arms for my CGM and infusion site. Infusion site at the top of the meatiest part and CGM lower down. I make sure there's a four-finger gap between them and I've had no problems. I us 60cm tubing and there's enough give where I keep my pump at my waist, but I am quite short. I keep...

Travelling in hot countries with insulin.

I use a Hydro Flask with a cool pack for my insulin for travel and extreme weather. I don't freeze the Hydro Flask or cool pack, just cool them in the fridge. The 591ml/20oz Hydro Flask fits a few insulin pens with a cool pack, and the 354ml/12oz easily fits several vials or cartridges, also...

    Travelling abroad with insulin pump

I was told not to put the pump through the x-ray machine and I should not go through the full-body scanners. I just got back from a Eurostar trip and for the airport-style security one way, I walked through the metal detector (not the full-body scanner) which had a sign saying it was safe for...

    Overwhelmed and defeated newbie T__T

Your pre-bolus time may vary depending on the insulin, your starting level and the meal. For breakfast, I found I needed a long pre-bolus, even with with Lyumjev. It could be 45 minutes to an hour depending on my starting level. For lunch I find I can generally bolus just before I start...

Type 1 Why does perfectly good blood sugar (steady for hours - let's say 4 hours) then just drop to hypo as soon as you lie bed on a bed!? Haha

Do you see the drop on a CGM, finger sticks or symptoms? I notice my CGMs (especially FreeStyle Libre 2) read a bit lower when I'm sitting or lying still. Getting up and moving around gives a higher reading on the CGM which usually lines up with a finger stick.

    T1 and menstrual hormones

I increase by 30% for the few days just before my period, then need to decrease by about 30% for a few days before I ovulate (I call it my 'magic week' because I feel like I can eat anything and inject the bare minimum insulin). I don't take much basal, so I find it easier to adjust my bolus. I...

    Finger prick advice

This doesn't solve the blood problem, but have you considered urine ketone tests? They won't be as precise as blood tests, but they don't involve squeezing out blood if that's getting frustrating. One trick I do for blood tests (blood sugar and ketone) is to push the pad of my finger toward...

    T:Slim or Ypso?

It does seem like CamAPS is more flexible and allows you to set a target BG from a wider range than t:slim. That is a pro for Ypso (another being the pre-filled or self-filled glass cartridges), but I think t:slim has many more pros for me, so I've decided to go with t:slim and it will be...

    T:Slim or Ypso?

I had a pump appointment last week and I’m debating whether I want the T:Slim and Ypso pump. Whichever I choose will be paired with Dexcom G6. I'm in Germany, so NHS-specific restrictions don't apply. I’m currently leaning toward the T:Slim, but I’ve got a few questions for people who have used...

    Type 1 Libre 3

I'm not sure this is a valid reason on their part. I'm in Germany and Libre 3 is available on prescription here (all FreeStyle Libre users were moved to Libre 3 in 2022), but I wasn't able to change the Libre 3 app's alarms' sounds and volumes at all. At least in Germany we were all sent a...

    Type 1 Libre 3

This was what I found too. No matter what settings I tried changing, the annoying alarms stayed the same. I haven't used the app since November purely because of the alarm sounds. When I did use the app, I turned off all alarms after realising how bad the alarm sounds were. I switched to the...

My libre alarm didn't go off

For me, the first symptom that suggests an oncoming low is when I start fumbling my words (or literally stumbling, if I'm walking). That's my cue to check in with Libre or with a finger prick. It's good that you're starting to notice these little things, even if it's after the fact. :-) It will...

“Rapid-acting” insulin taking hours to work…

@plantae You quoted a bit of my post where I was talking about splitting my meal, rather than a split dose. They're very different. I find that at breakfast I'm very insulin resistant. What I've found works for me is to take my full dose of insulin when I get up, eat half my carbs once I'm...

Freestyle Libre 3 use by/expiration dates

An update for @DavidDK - I received my second shipment of Libre 3s last week (13 Jan). This batch's expiration date is 30 November 2023, so 10.5 months in the future. The first batch (received 4 October 2022) had an expiration date 5 months in the future (28 February 2023). This was when Libre...

“Rapid-acting” insulin taking hours to work…

I don't take Trurapi, but I take the same split meal approach with breakfast. I dose the same amount of Lyumjev every morning and pre-bolus based on how long it takes me to get to down to 5.5 rather than a set amount of time (it usually works out to be 30-60 minutes depending on my starting...

    Libre moving on arm??

If the sensor hasn't scanned, it won't be in the app or reader. But if you still have the packaging, the sensor number can be found in a few spots - on the bottom of the box (below the lot number in the top section), and on the foiled that covered the sensor container before it was put in the...

How to remove libre 2 sensor

There's no needle under the sensor, just a thin filament. The applicator uses a needle to get the filament in place, but the needle then retracts back into the applicator. The filament is thin and flexible. I don't even notice it coming out when I remove a sensor, whether I remove the sensor...
