Latest Hba1c reading is great news!!

HI vinny yes for the last two years I have been no higher than 34....I do control my carbs but have gone from 20g to 50g without any rise...I won't be going higher on the carbs as I am happy to hover in mild ketosis although I do go over on the carbs when I drink beer.

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

I think moderate drinking improves insulin sensitivity. Not sure what moderate is but I suppose if my sugars start to increase after drinking then I can assume I am becoming more insulin resistant. keep testing is the key.

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Correct.......there are definitely positives to drinking. even large quantities of beer do not increase my blood sugars. I like the fact that the liver puts processing alcohol to the top of the list....

5.1 but I didn't do any sweet stuff as I don't have a sweet tooth so no dramas. however I had an epic drinking session from mid afternoon to the early hours. still good numbers so I'm a happy bunny

Or good if you consider you can now take action to reduce that number via diet and modest excersise to stop complications.

    Can you go too low?

If it was me I would go with 1 metformin with my biggest meal of the day and monitor closely for a week. I would tell the doc next time I went. In the first 12 months of keto I upped my meds then dropped my meds and did a couple of months with no meds all in the interests of science. I settled...

Christmas and Christmas Day and food

I will be eating my usual low carb fare but drink lots of wine and beer. I don't miss potatoes and yorkshires etc. any more so will load up on cauli cheese and such like. The first year or so of very meticulous eating is now paying dividends. The alcohol will keep my sugars under control if I...

Carb counting and lack of UK food label traffic light system for total carb's

Fast acting on public demand. Maybe you're the man for this labeling malarkey after all. :-)

    good experience with diabetic nurse

My diabetic nurse (the one who takes my bloods etc.) is always quite nice and very interested in how I turned this around. I have seen her quite a lot and, unlike the doctor is very inquisitive as to what I eat. The only bit I can actually see her struggle with is the fact I do not eat fruit or...

Don't involve yourself in the blame game.

I can't help thinking I did eat a very high carb diet that included a lot of bread and rice on an almost daily basis. I do not however ,beat myself up over this. I'm very pragmatic, It is what it is!

Collecting Prescriptions as part of your exercise

I remember getting my local pharmacy to do this. one morning I popped in as I was getting uncomfortably low on my metformin so I asked for more, 'oliver style'. The snotty woman told me exactly how many I should have left and told me they would be delivered when they decided I needed more. I...

    Type 2 Life

Yes the alcohol definitely helps liver dumps. I used to have a small glass of wine each night topped up with diet lemonade to keep morning sugars low. A year later and I don't have to do that. I'm assuming my insulin resistance is now sorting itself out plus i'm sticking with a little metformin...

    American healthcare vs U.K. Healthcare

Generally speaking I am happy with the NHS. Clearly there is work to be done regarding dietary advice for certain patients which currently is an umbrella approach that leaves a lot of people inadequately catered for. However if and I mean if your are able to take some control/ responsibility for...
