    Spike after breakfast

While white toast with marmalade may not be the healthiest of options, even if it is low-carb, you can indulge on occasion if you wish with low carb toast and sugar-free Stute marmalade. Waitrose sells a fine cut version, which I occasionally enjoy, but not too much as it is sweetened with...

Life (more) miserable since diagnosis and Metformin

Here are some thoughts based on my experience: I also reacted badly to Metformin. Switch to SR became better with time. Why are you on 1500mg a day though? I was put on 1000mg a day to start with. I can't recall what my A1c was, but yours at 61 doesn't seem terrible to me. But that's a question...

    Type 1 Dexcom v Libre

I use a Libre 2 plus with Libre app on my phone and only have to scan it with my phone to activate a new sensor. If I lose connection, I switch Bluetooth off and on and it generally restarts. Otherwise, I scan, but that is very seldom. At one point, I had 3 successive failures with Libre, but...

Can the Freestyle Libre applicator be recycled?

Abbott should have a scheme to recycle Libre applicators. As far as I know, they are not suitable for recycling and it all adds up to a lot of plastic waste.

    Dapagliflozin

I had Dapagliflozin 5 mg added to my 3 x Metformin prescription when my A1c was very high. It didn't noticeably reduce it, but switching to a low carb diet months later did. The dapa does give me bouts of constipation, one was very severe. I am keen to come off my meds, but with GP's agreement...

Very Low Blood Sugars, Not Increasing With Carbs

Just my opinion - I've never used a Dexcom, I'm in no way an expert. I do use a Libre 2 plus and accept some inaccuracies as trends are useful for me. Also, in my experience, sensors vary, some more accurate than others, and that may well be true for Dexcom as well. Personally, in your...

Very Low Blood Sugars, Not Increasing With Carbs

You are already cross-checking your blood glucose readings, but perhaps a Dexcom cgm worn alongside the Libre would help further. They are reputed to be more accurate at low numbers, but anyway, a cross-check with gms might allow you to reduce finger pricking. If the GP won't prescribe, they...

Very Low Blood Sugars, Not Increasing With Carbs

@hardergamer I just watched a video on a hypoglycemia patient on YouTube, which might interest you.

Glucose monitors - all one unit, do they exist?

I bought the Betachek C50 based on good reviews, including @Nicola M . Three days in, I have mixed feelings. It is compact and convenient, but the finger prick numbers are tiny and I've had too many error readings. As I am self funding, this means wasted test strips and it will be expensive to...

My glucometer Betachek C50 just arrived. Yikes, I hope I get the hang of it.

@saucequery Thanks. I have a love-hate relationship with the Libre. There is huge room for improvement on accuracy. On the other hand, it is SO useful to follow trends, especially as factors other than food can cause glucose to spike. I haven't tried the meter yet.

My glucometer Betachek C50 just arrived. Yikes, I hope I get the hang of it.

I've been relying on a Libre 2 plus CGM alone to check my glucose levels and trends, because I could never get blood for a successful finger prick test. But realising its shortcomings, and that it could be very misleading, I finally bit the bullet and looked for what seemed to be the most...

    Betachek C50 Blood Glucose Meter

I'm looking at buying the Betachek for the same reasons you have. I was petrified by severe lows on 3-in-a-row newly activated sensors, which I had to discard, and now wonder about Libre accuracy in general. Have I been lulled into thinking I have BG under control, when in fact I don't? Still, I...

    Betachek C50 Blood Glucose Meter

I've been looking high and low for feedback on the Betachek. Having everything integrated seems just the idiot proofing I need, provided I remember to spin the cog after using a test strip each time and bear the 'use by' date in mind. It's surprising it isn't well-known, given its unique...

    Accuracy?

Hi @GandMbb How are you getting on with your Betachek? I love the idea of everything integrated, no separate lancet or test strips, and I can't understand why there isn't more about it on the forum. I am on the cusp of getting one, just want positive feedback and experience. Thanks.

Anyone having big reliability issues with Freestyle Libre 2 Plus sensors?

This is true, but the reason I have the CGM is I can't draw blood successfully to get a reading on a meter. Is there an idiot-proof but accurate one?

Anyone having big reliability issues with Freestyle Libre 2 Plus sensors?

Actually, I also had a LO reading, which was what freaked me out and led me to dial 111. It was the third sensor in a row that opened with a low reading after warm-up and dipped. I replaced the first one on Abbott's advice, the second one died - read 'Apply New Sensor', and the third went south...

Anyone having big reliability issues with Freestyle Libre 2 Plus sensors?

I thought I was the only one who experienced Libre 2 plus plummeting down to 2.0 mmol/L, then crashing. It happened to me at the start of 3 back-to-back sensors and I did begin to wonder if I had done something wrong. But I also worried that something was very wrong with me, so I skipped my meds...

Anyone having big reliability issues with Freestyle Libre 2 Plus sensors?

Do you check your glucose readings with a fingerprick meter? I also thought I had no total failures until I did. I had only been checked against a meter for 3 days in hospital, as I don't have one myself. The readings then were either accurate or 1-2.5mmol/L lower, which I thought was okay, and...
