    Smartphone and CGM compatibility

Hei Simon, thanks for your response. I realised the phone did bong, so it’s NFC reader was working. Ironically it picked up the Sibionics CGM I was wearing, but when I tried to get it to read the Libre 3 it gave me an error message saying it had found a device, but it was incompatible! At that...

    Foods to eat before colonoscopy?

Veteran of 2 colonoscopies and supported OH through 2. The prep is quite critical, if your bowel is not empty and clear then they will not do the procedure. We both had to take some tablets and then make up and drink a liquid laxative. We have a 2 hour journey to the clinic, so being near a...

    Smartphone and CGM compatibility

So the health authority have switched from supplying Libre Freestyle 2 to 3. Been happily using the Libre freestyle 2 on a much maligned (by senior daughter) Hauwei , now 5 years old, but takes very nice photos! Decided it would be good to get new phone, before old one died. OH agreed to stump...

Libre Freestyle 3 and Insulin pens

Hei, am trawling for ideas for how to link my Libre Freestyle 3 to my Novopen Echo plus smart pens. I live in Norway and the health authority supply CGMs and just switched from Libre Freestyle 2 to 3. Was using the Novopens since February with the Libre Freestyle 2. when I installed the Libre...

    Type 1 Plane travel

«I expect my luggage to be in the overhead compartment but I'm not sure what the regulations are regarding that. What if every passenger aimed to have their luggage there?» you need to check the luggage restrictions of whichever airline(s) you are travelling with. There will be a weight and size...

    Type 1 Plane travel

Let your travel insurance company know. Sounds like you use a pump, you need check how the altered cabin pressure affects it. Make sure you have plenty of snacks about your person, in case of delays. Don’t order the diabetic meal, if offered! Just pick your way through whatever is offered, or...

    Lantus insulin

I was advised to make sure my bedtime blood sugar level was at a certain level at bedtime, a bit higher after any alcohol consumption. So an hour or so before bedtime I always check my level and have a small snack if necessary, half a slice of bread or a digestive biscuit seems to work. depends...

5 year old daughter diagnosed today

As someone diagnosed as a granny I’m afraid I can’t offer much practical advise. I found the finger pricks to take a Blood glucose level worse than the insulin injections, but with your daughter both these should be taken care of with a CGM, continuous glucose monitor and an insulin pump. She...

    Colonoscopy prediabetes

Hei Nabilla, hopefully if you have a few weeks until your colonoscopy you will be recovered from the pneumonia by then and can just concentrate on the prep for the colonoscopy. I thought I had to stop eating fibre foods a week before the procedure, and then I assume you have been given or will...

Cyprus alternative to Glucogen/Hypo treatment for 2yr old

Hei Kirsty, this must all be very scary for you. I’m a British granny living in Norway, diagnosed T1 2 years ago and I can empathize with some of what you are going through, language barrier etc. I don't know of any parents of young children on here who can offer better advise, hoping there are...

    Airport snacks

I travel with Wasa sandwich biscuits and baby food yoghurt pouches. Have actually got the yoghurt pouches safely through security these days. As long as they are under 100 ml. You need to be mindful of the fact that your flight might be delayed and take you over your next scheduled mealtime...

What was your diagnosis experience like?

@Grant_Vicat your signature says you do not have diabetes? Or is this the diagnosis story of someone else?

Anyone else think that a post breakfast reading of up to 16 is nothing to worry about?

< I was advised by hospital staff to rotate my injection sites. I use thighs for long term and belly for short term, but try not to go in the exact same place each time. Evidently it can cause scarring and means the insulin will not be absorbed properly. Maybe see if you can get an appointment...

    Smart pen

Been using two since February, once the pharmacy and the doctor got the prescription for the correct vials of insulin sorted out! It means I can check when I last took insulin and how much I have taken during the day. it saves those moments when you are maybe distracted pre meal time and can’t...

What was your diagnosis experience like?

Hei, I have seen a few type 1 diagnosis stories on You Tube and they seem to be the more ‘dramatic’ ones, involving hospital stays, drips and sometimes ICU. I’m sorry yours was such a negative experience for you. Being diagnosed with any serious/ chronic condition I guess tests our fortitude and...

Changing to pen & prick on holidays

Not in the pump brigade so can’t offer any experience, I use CGMs and had those fall off during holidays due to showering, being sweaty and swimming! Oh and walking into door frames! Will the sensor be any use without the pump? Just to save you the finger sticks? Local pharmacy to acquire some...

Is anyone else EXHAUSTED by this disease??

Hope you can find something to help you feel better. When I found out was wrong with me, at age 68.. I was thankful I didn’t have decades of dealing with needles and medication ahead of me. I get the impression the medics here like newly diagnosed T1 ‘s to ‘serve their time‘ using finger pricks...
