Hi, I've got a colonoscopy in a few weeks' time. Three days before, you need to go on a low fibre diet. You're allowed bread, rice and pasta but only if it's white. You can't have fruit or veg, nuts or seeds, red meat, yoghurt or any high fibre food.
If I were well, I might take the chance to do some fasting, but I'm recovering from a bad case of pneumonia.amd have low iron and B12 and I'm totally exhausted!
I've been eating a fairly low-carb diet (max 75g carb and often around 50g) which relies a lot on fish and meat of all kinds as well as non-starchy veg, some berries, greek yoghurt, and moderate amounts of nuts and seeds.
My HBA1c was 42 when I found out I was prediabetic about 4 weeks ago.
My question is, for the two days I'm not allowed high fibre food (no food on day of procedure) what is the safest thing to do in terms of my recovery from pneumonia and eating enough?
1) eat only low fibre foods (milk, cheese, egg, tofu, white meat, poached fish and other low fibre food - ideas welcomed!
2) eat above, but include some white rice or boiled potatoes and maybe some white bread and butter?

Hei Nabilla, hopefully if you have a few weeks until your colonoscopy you will be recovered from the pneumonia by then and can just concentrate on the prep for the colonoscopy. I thought I had to stop eating fibre foods a week before the procedure, and then I assume you have been given or will have to get some laxative to take in the couple of days before the procedure?
I think you need to remember not to eat anything red in the few days beforehand. I made up some strawberry jelly for the days when I wasn’t supposed to be eating, but just in time found out anything red is a bad idea!
good luck, hope all goes well with your procedure.

Hi, yes I'm starting to feel better, thanks. I've calmed down a bit! It's only 2 days of low fibre followed by a fast from 3pm.the day before the procedure with some laxatives, so I can survive on fish, eggs, cheese and chicken and will do without white bread, pasta or rice as I'm scared it will affect my blood glucose levels. 2 days of that isn't going to kill me! Just don't want to lose more weight just now but in the grand scheme of things it will not have a big impact. Thanks for the reassurance.

I know you don't want to lose weight, but the most helpful advice I was given by friends who had a colonoscopy, was to eat only a small amount on the 4 days prior to the procedure. This made the day before the colonoscopy much easier.

Ok, that's good to know, I can do that. I also noticed yoghurt is on my hospital list of things to avoid. Realise I may have developed a slight addiction!
