If <4 mmol/l but Feeling Fine

The other day I had just got in from sorting out the horses, felt absolutely fine, casually did a BM to find I was 1.9  I tend to go with the whole '4 is the floor' theory, and will treat anything under 4 as a hypo accordingly.

Would you eat your way to weight loss surgery?

I wonder, now he's publicly admitted how he's deliberately manipulating his weight, if he will still get the surgery? I know if I was a surgeon and saw him on the news then on my operating table I'd wheel him back out again

Would you eat your way to weight loss surgery?

I was walking through the living room and stopped in my tracks when I heard this on the tv  What this man is doing is what is wrong with our country. People looking for fast tracks and being lazy. Instead of working hard to lose the weight, he is instead gluttoning himself so he can be...

    When Novorapid pens don't click

I miss my Novorapid pens - I've just started on the Humalog Kwikpen pens, and they don't click or make noise at all. Plus it takes around 8u to prime when you first use them, in my experience anyway, tried with different batches too! I obviously do the air test first but not the same as...

    Fish Oil Capsules

I also take Omacor on prescription and it doesn't affect my levels either :) If you're worried, have a quick word with your GP but there doesn't seem to be any real side effects of the capsules.

How to treat hypo when feeling nauseous is a major symptom?

Hi everyone, been a bit since I was on here, my last post was me on a borderline Kidney infection/DKA. I did, as predicted, end up in hospital for 11 days, and with the usual DKA regime and I/V antibiotics recovered well. My short acting insulin has now been changed from Novorapid to Humalog...

Reassurance needed: High ketones but normal BM?!

Ok, thankyou :) Will ring NHS Direct now and see what they suggest - am just wary of going to hospital and wasting their time! I understand levels of 14/15 are high to most - unfortunately this hasn't been the case for me in the past and is hard to stick in my brain, so apologies for anyone...

Reassurance needed: High ketones but normal BM?!

Hey Cugila :) As stated, I haven't got high BMs....the highest they've been all day is 15, and lowest being 7.4. I have had DKA in the past, but this has only triggered at 30 or higher. Is it possible to get DKA from levels of 14/15? If so I've been uninformed by my diabetic team! x

Reassurance needed: High ketones but normal BM?!

Am possibly harbouring a kidney infection - lower right back very sore. Am reluctant to waste dr's time over bank holiday etc as it isn't preventing me from living and would rather someone needy was looked at. Pain started yesterday. Ketones were ++ to +++ yesterday, wasn't overly concerned as...

Quick question! Link between Gastroparesis and DKA?

Thankyou very much Cugila :D Hadn't come across that link, will print it off and arm myself ready for my next clinic app  xx

Quick question! Link between Gastroparesis and DKA?

Doctors no good, internet browsing inconclusive! Please can I have some help in determining whether GP and DKA are related and is quite possibly a cause of some of my DKAs? In a GP flareup, I don't eat well, and when I do my levels rocket all over the place (ranging from 6 to HI). I always...

    Is this hypo territory?

I've always been led by the mantra: 4 is the floor! Which is what I tend to stick to. Although you might feel fine at 3.9, your levels can decline rather quickly! You certainly don't want to wake up to paramedics on Christmas Day  Like others have mentioned, you can still have a bit of...

    Diabetes T1

I am EXACTLY the same as you. EXACTLY! I'm a bit younger at 18 and was diagnosed at 7. I was reading this post and you've summed up everything, from the whole finding 4 BMs a day inpossible to get a pump (this is what I've been told to do too) to being threatnened with complications. I already...

    what was your last hba1c

*Wipes brow* I thought I was in for a telling off and a quick shove off the board for that grand confession! It has helped tremendously being on this forum though, I can ask all the stupid questions on here and can relate to other people which in turn make me feel that little bit more...

Does one ever get out of denial over diabetes?

This, the_anticarb, is how I feel. For most people, surely the though of complications are enough to scare most. I, however, need much more motivation to realise my consequences. Am glad to know someone else has the same emotional stance on it as I have! Totsy - glad you have managed to control...

    what was your last hba1c

I think mine might be the highest one here by a huge margin..... *Whispers* 14.4%   It gets worse when I admit it was over 15% in August, so I am getting there and it is starting to come down. Also to bear in mind I've had 5 DKAs this year (4 out of 5 illness...

Does one ever get out of denial over diabetes?

Yum, Haribo Sours! The cherries are the best, don't you think? I get like this too, in a way it must be so much harder for you because it's not like you can give yourself a bigger dose if insulin to compensate for these 'blips' of control. Forgive my naiveness, I'm not very clued up...

Does one ever get out of denial over diabetes?

Thanks for the support guys :) I think I'm slowly getting there, although it's a long road ahead. I've started writing a blog online, not envisioning anyone actually reading it and having some kind of diabetic epiphany (!) but it really helps to get things off my chest I'd normally keep...
