    Obsessed with testing!!!!

Sorry not a lot to add as everyone's pretty much covered it, but I'm shocked to hear about the lack of strips you are all being given  I thought life was hard when my Dr wouldn't let me have more than one type of strip (2 diff BM machines, one's at home with me and the other is at the...

Am I taking on too much?

I would personally take a breather and re-evaluate what you are doing in your life and where diabetes will take priority! I'm only 18 (T1 too!) but have been burning the candle at both ends, working full time, travelling to work and back and I have horses too which has meant me working 18 hour...

Is NO insulin in the body the ONLY cause of DKA?!

Right bear with me whilst I reply! Celtic.Piskie - thankyou for clearing that up for me. Was wondering as reading through my discharge form, I was admitted with a urinalysis of Ketones +++ (obv), protein and Leucocytes (sp?!) which I know is an indicator of a UTI. Janabelle - Interesting link...

Is NO insulin in the body the ONLY cause of DKA?!

Celtic Piskie, thankyou, interesting link! So (sorry am such a numpty with things like this!) in essence, if I were to have, say, a UTI, still injecting insulin, I could still DKA? It's a shame I can't actually talk and ask my consultant these things  but never mind! x

Is NO insulin in the body the ONLY cause of DKA?!

Just been released from hospital again after a 2 week stint with DKA  Really scared me this time as have never been so ill with it, was very tachycardic (172 bpm! ) and very high resps. Honestly thought this was it! Anyhow, while in hospital I managed to get DKA again during the...

    Build up shakes

Whenever I haven't been well I've been given Ensure drinks to keep my weight up, although as others have mentioned I'd confer with your diabetes team due to the high calorie = high sugar issues. Hope you pick up soon :) x

Insulin/weight gain - not happy! Any experiences?

Ebony - Thanks for the detailed reply, it helps a LOT knowing there is someone else who felt/feels pretty much the same as I do - there isn't a good support network in terms of people my age group coping with this so it's good to know I'm on similar wavelengths with others! It's just so...

Insulin/weight gain - not happy! Any experiences?

I'm getting a bit concerned and was hopefully after some tips from you lovely lot :) Currently have shocking control on my diabetes, never do BMs....but I'm improving! Never used to take my levemir at night and now I take it religiously - a big step in my book!! Anyway, I'm on 56u of Levemir...

    Are you a Egghead?

I could eat omelettes till the cows come home - yum! Duck eggs are ok, has anyone tried quail eggs here?? We had quails a while back, they lay tiny eggs but are delicious when hard boiled on salad  xxx

Do you inject if you don't eat? Getting conflicting advice!

Re: Do you inject if you don't eat? Getting conflicting advi Thanks Nigel, I'll ask today as I have a follow up appointment this afternoon to check how I'm doing. Thanks everyone for your advice, will take it on board. I suppose it was my own doing really being DKA as BMs and rational...

Do you inject if you don't eat? Getting conflicting advice!

Was ill last week and as a result didn't eat. I'm on novorapid and levemir, and was puzzled over what to do. Doctor 1 says if I'm not eating, don't inject my novorapid, as I only inject that to cover what I eat, but to still take the levemir so I still have background insulin in my body...

    DKA

Same here, had about 3 bouts in a year, one was really bad and I have no recollection o it and am suffering for it now with neuropathy!! Sounds like you made the right choice taking your daughter in. For me, it's high levels, ketones and if I'm vomiting. I tend to manage ok but when the sickness...

Neuropathy in younger people? And some general help/exp!

Hi there, just wondering if anyone was in the same boat as me and could offer help or advise! Had diabetes now for ten years (18 now), and in the last year started suffering from numbness in my feet. Did tell consultant at the time but it seemed to have been ignored (something that I'm pulling...

Newbie, 18yo and been diabetic for 10 of them!

For ages I've been trying to find a supportive diabetic forum, and thank God I've come across this! Anyway, I'm Ali (Hi!) and I'm 18 years old. I've had diabetes for the past 10 years, and due to lack of control, am now suffering the joys of neuropathy. I've come seeking, hopefully, similar...
