Can coming off medication become a reality or is it a dream?

Thank you to all of you who have taken time to respond. I am seeing my diabetic nurse next week and I will talk to her about my ambition to cut down on my medication. My GP was ready to increase my statins when my cholesterol had recently gone up but with my weight loss and watching my diet, I...

Can coming off medication become a reality or is it a dream?

hello. I am not on insulin and that's why I want to get as healthy as I can so that I can reduce my meds rather than have them increased. I am classed as obese (I am 5"1' and weigh 13.5 stones) so am about 4 or 5 stones overweight which is a massive amount and I'm sure once I get there I...

Can coming off medication become a reality or is it a dream?

I think I may have posted this question before but I take quite a lot of medication ie I have been taking statins for years, I take a small tablet for BP, x2 metformin tablets daily and sometimes take Omeprazole and am on Nortryptyline (for migraines) I also take some supplements ie R-Alpha...

Type 2 Tonic to boost immune system

At the moment I am taking x2 garlic capsules a day and also x1 Vit C with zinc but I've been battling a very nasty virus this time and it's really exhausted me (I hadn't had a cold for years until now). Someone at work suggested the tonic which can boost your immune system after a bout of flu...

Can anyone recommend a diabetic friendly over the counter tonic which can boost my immune system after a bad virus? Thanks

Type 2 Fighting a virus and how to boost immune system

Two weeks on and I am still fighting a virus which started before I had my flu jab then I thought I was getting better, had my flu jab and it came back again with a vengeance. I thought I had a pretty good immune system as I very rarely get cough/colds but this has knocked me for six big time...

Type 2 Diabetes and huge weight loss

I take x2 500mg metformin tablets but I also have fatty liver. As from tomorrow I will combine my weight loss with 2 days a week fasting by cutting out breakfast. I have an appointment at the end of the month to discuss additional glicazide as my HBA1C has come back as 7.5% but I want to...

Type 2 Diabetes and huge weight loss

I’d like to know from others what impact has it had on your T2 diabetes by losing a lot of weight (I mean 4 or 5 stones +)? Have you managed to get an HBA1C into non-diabetic range and how long is it possible to keep it at those levels without giving in to medication (tablets or insulin). I...

Type 2 HA1BC has gone up

Thanks for this piece of advice as I know of diabetics who eat lots of fruit believing that it's healthy. I have the added pressure of addressing my weight, BS levels and fatty liver so I know it's not going to be easy at all.

Type 2 HA1BC has gone up

Really? That's interesting I didn't know that. It feels weird to cut out fruit completely though, are there any fruits which are better for fatty liver? Do you suggest I cut out the fruit and replace with veg? Why don't the medics ever tell you these things - it makes me so cross!

Type 2 HA1BC has gone up

I may consider going back to cutting out breakfast a couple of days a week. I'm determined to get my numbers down for my next review. Sent from my F3311 using DCUK Forum mobile app

Type 2 HA1BC has gone up

I know SW plan says you can eat pasta, rice, potatoes but I tend to cut these out so am watching my carb intake. I like the SW plan as it keeps me on the right track, I only eat 2 pieces of fruit a day because that's what my diabetic nurse told me to do which makes sense. Am being weighed on...

Type 2 HA1BC has gone up

I test about once a day to make my test strips last so I alternate when I test. The lowest I got my hbaic was 6.5% but that was a while ago. I think I’ve got to take my weight loss seriously and that’s why I’ve joined SW. I can’t risk taking glicazide as it can cause weight gain which I don’t...

Type 2 HA1BC has gone up

I’ve been taking statins for years and I can’t really come off them and risk my fatty liver getting worse. Am just hoping by taking my weight loss seriously the numbers will come down. I know it sounds like a very long way off but I do hope to come off a lot of my medication. Sometimes I...

Type 2 HA1BC has gone up

I joined SW a few weeks ago and have lost just over half a stone and want to aim to get to a stone lighter before Xmas but I have a long way to go before I get to goal weight so it’s going to be slow, I seem to be losing about 1 - 1.5 lbs a week.

Type 2 HA1BC has gone up

I may refuse to take the glicazide and try and get it down myself with my continued weight loss and see in 6 months time if my efforts pay off.

Type 2 HA1BC has gone up

My latest HBa1c result has gone up to 7.5% and so the doctor wants to reduce that 0.5 down to 7 so I may be prescribed glicazide in addition to my x2 metformin which I’m already taking. Is there anything I need to know about glicazide ie side effects etc from others already taking it? I’m...

    Alpha Lipoic Acid

I have ordered my next batch of ALA from Swanson this time. I'm not taking this for neuropathy but purely for the antioxidant benefits (and it's supposed to be OK and improve fatty liver which I also have). I'd like to ask to those of you who have been taking this for a while, what benefits...

    Fatty Liver & Diabetes

I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes 8 years ago this month and then it was found by chance 2 years ago after having an US scan that fatty liver showed up on it. Because it was also found that I had a liver cyst I then had an MRI as they wanted to look at the cyst in more detail but to cut a long...
