Newly diagnosed, who do I need to tell?

I did exactly the same last October and they didn't want to know, unless I had restrictions imposed by the DVLA. My renewal is due in August, so like you, I'll wait and see what happens.

Newly diagnosed, who do I need to tell?

I find that interesting and I'm sure you're right, but as we are vulnerable to hypos (unlike non Ds) then surely we are a greater risk? I'm talking about driving. I think I would have difficulty arguing my case with them if they tried to increase my premium.

    Nostalgia

Thank you for your comforting words. I'm just impatient to get through this newbie stage and stop thinking about it all the time.

    Upset tum.....

I think any major change in our diets can have adverse effects - if you know what I mean! I'm a firm believer of Imodium as it slows down the break neck speed that your intestines are going at and allows some time for everything to go back to normal speed. Bit like an F1 racer going on a country...

    Upset tum.....

Have you considered taking Imodium for a couple of days? It could slow everything down whilst your gut recovers from your changed diet.

    Totally befuddled

Thanks signy. I do tend to try and analize too much, but I'm still trying to understand this whole D thing. I'm on a relatively low carb diet (80g per day) and perhaps I should just be happy I've stabilised my levels and accept them with good grace, but I can't help wondering how I've done it...

    Totally befuddled

Evening everyone. I've had the most fantastic 3 days where my bg levels have been between 4.9 and 7.8. I have reduced my carbs a little - no potatoes with dinner, but apart from that I've not changed anything. I'm now having to lower my insulin units as I don't want hypos. I don't understand the...

Having a bad day, but not the usual way...

I'm a bit inexperienced, but would a few carbs be of help to stabilise your bg. I understand glucose or dextrosol only pull you out of the hypo for a short time and you're then back down again unless you follow up with biscuits or bread or some other carb.

Type 1 how much actrapid to counter balance a additional meal

Hi Jack, I'm also on a mixed Insulin and have rapid acting insulin sitting in the fridge for Sick Day Rules. I have never had to use it. I rely on my mixed and a low carb diet to keep my glucose in check. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    Diaries

I'll have a look at that one. I'm using Diabetes:M at the moment, which almost does everything I would like.

    Bruising After Blood Test

I always tend to bruise after a blood test, although not as bad as yours. One tip I've learned is to hold my arm up above my head immediately afterwards. I find this helps enormously. Ok, not always possible if you're being ushered out of the room to make way for the next victim, but if the...

    A huge thank you

Thank you Mike for your kind words. I wouldn't dream of advising anyone who has a problem as I'm too inexperienced for that, but if showing what I've managed to achieve fairly quickly can help boost someone's confidence, then I'll be all smiles. That'll be my small contribution to this amazing...

    Diaries

Thanks Lucy. It looks a bit complicated, but I'll have a thorough look at it this evening. I'm sure it'll be better than my spreadsheet.

    A huge thank you

Thanks Flowerpot. Yesterday has really given me a boost and proved I can be in control if I really try. As you say, here's to many more :)

    A huge thank you

Thanks Lucy. I feel as though I'm finally standing on top of the hurdle that was thrown in my path a few months ago. My confidence is growing and I think without the forum, I'd have still been a lonely, frightened, tearful individual. Today has started well with another good bg reading, so...

    A huge thank you

Aww, I feel embarrased now. My final bg reading for the day is a magnificent 6.2. I'm thrilled to bits with my day, but tomorrow is another day, so who knows.......

    A huge thank you

Thanks Noblehead. I've been in a dark tunnel for several months, but am finally feeling more confident. Having taken myself in hand with lower carbs, more exercise and a healthier diet, I seem to be getting the better of this atrocious condition. The forum and all its fantastic members have been...
