    Diabetic Id

I have a medic alert bracelet and two cards in my purse, one is "In an Emergency etc" and the other is the Insulin passport showing what type of Insulin I'm taking.

    Im Sulking...............

I fully intend to stay with the forum, I've learned so much in a very short space of time. I accept I'm a newbie and have oodles that I still have to learn, but I'm staying put. My diabetic team have been very good, but there's no way I would have expanded my knowledge about Diabetes without the...

    Using hand gel

I agree. Always use soap and water and if you can, dry your hands with kitchen paper rather than a contaminated towel. Wet wipes and alcohol wipes can squew your bg readings.

    Im Sulking...............

Hi Kevin, I've only been diabetic for 6 months and have not been offered a "course", thank heavens. I appreciate some people do find these courses very helpful, but I'm happy to read up about diabetes and learn from the forum, rather than sit in a "classroom" for hours on end and then probably...

    Beetroot

Hi Mike, Thank you for the explanation. I've also just read Indy51s review that she posted. I'm a T1 on insulin, reducing my carbs (now on about 80 per day) and getting close to my target of no less than 5 and no more than 8. I've still got so much to learn though, which is why I ask somewhat...

Newly diagnosed and in a panic

I was in my sixties when diagnosed as T1 and put on insulin straight away. Various blood tests later, the original diagnosis was found to be correct.

    Beetroot

Hi Mike, Why do you state 7.8? I'm curious.

    Dry skin

Aveeno is another good moisturiser. Don't give up and gorge on chocolate and cakes, you'll regret it. I never had a particularly sweet tooth, but since becoming diabetic and not being allowed sweet things, I now crave sweet foods ........sods law!! I've found chocolate with a minimum of 85%...

    Told to raise HbA1c

I have a copy of a letter sent from my consultant to my gp, where he says my HBA1c is excellent. It was 50 (6.7%). Err I don't think so. It may be good, but it's not good enough for me. I'm aiming for 42 (6%) which equals 7mmol/L. That would be an achievement in my little diabetic world. I can't...

    LCHF

You're welcome, shame you can't use it, it's a good one, at least for me anyway.

    LCHF

I wouldn't know how to send a link, told you I wasn't a techno wizard !! Anyway if you go to Google and type in "Diabtetes:M app", it'll appear as an app from Google play. It's Android and suitable for smart phones and tablets. Hope this helps.

    LCHF

Have a look at 'Diabetes:M'. This is the one I use after trying quite a few others. It tots up your carb intake through the day and has a section where no end of foods are listed and tells you the carb, fat and protein amounts for each food. You can also add your own types of meals if you want...

Fruit good or bad for you

Trouble is, won't these fats push cholesterol levels up? I know Olive oil is ok, as that's not a saturated fat, but aren't all the others saturated?

Newly diagnosed and in a panic

I too was found to be lacking in B12 and put on Folic acid tabs for a month. Green leafy veg are supposed to help too, so spinach, curly kale, watercress and anything else I can think of are being shovelled in !!! My hair is thickening up now, so I guess I'm probably ok, but I have another blood...

    Marathon

Thank you very much Chris, that's very kind of you. It's an unusual marathon in so much as it's a walk of 100km over two days from Richmond Park in London to Brighton. When he gets himself organised I'll post more details and hope there will be more like minded people like you. Thank you

    Marathon

Thanks Noblehead. I'm so chuffed about what he's doing on behalf of his chosen charities. I brought him up as a single parent and he's turned out to be a diamond:)

    Marathon

My son, aged 38, has just announced that he's going to do a marathon next year and his chosen charities are Diabetes Uk and Multiple Myeloma (my husband died of the latter). I'm so proud of him.

    Diagnosing Diabetes?

It's very easy to stick your head in the sand and just wish the symptoms would go away. I did that for 3 months, but eventually plucked up the courage to see my gp. It was a shock and I was in tears, but 6 months down the line, I've become accustomed to my different life style and the most...
