Well I'm long overdue for an update -
It's been 6 months since I started doing the FMD with avocados, that's 6 sessions of 5 days each.
And my conclusion is - it isn't working for me unfortunately.
Session 1 got me some reasonably impressive results but since then there have been no really...
Thanks for the links - very interesting stuff. I think it makes sense to try and run tighter bg control over the next fast. The only problem is that if you do hit a hypo then you have to treat it and then you've just screwed up your FMD. However running a cgm does help to take some pressure off...
Latest update ----
Finished fast #3 and the "re-feed" - I have a slight improvement in basal insulin requirements over fast #1 but not much...
I have written off fast #2 as a failure due to overdoing the protein (see my earlier posts)
Re. the experience of the FMD itself, I generally find that...
Wishing you the best of luck, and hope you get a C-Peptide test soon.
I had one done about 6 months ago, so at least I have a baseline figure to go from. I have an appointment with my specialist on the 6th June and with a bit of luck I will have managed to fit in another 2 or 3 fasts in by...
Thanks for your input and your encouragement, However I've done plenty of 5:2 and it has really helped me get my weight down in the last couple of years. Done some cycling too but nowhere near your level ! I'm a fair weather recumbent rider. I find saddles to be a pain in the bum. ;)
No, my...
I think if they analysed my chicken & veg broth they would find a fair bit more than that. Each bowl would have had roughly 1/3rd of a large chicken breast in it, which works out at 15 to 20g protein per serving, and that's just from the chicken alone...
Update time from my 2nd FMD session -
Fairly disappointing.
Despite some early signs around day 3 that I might be able to reduce my basal rates some more it appears not so, though I have slightly reduced my bolus ratio for my evening meal, so not all lost. I was quietly hoping to repeat my...
Maybe I wasn't clear -
Pre the carb indulgence day I had set my basal insulin profile, it seemed to be reasonably OK after lowering it several times between day 3 and day 8 after the FMD session 1 fast. (1 week earlier)
A day or two after the carb-fest I had to reduce my basal rates slightly...
Probably.
Some generalising going on I think, but I got his point. He was near retirement at the time, so would have had a working lifetime of dealing with diabetic patients.
Dave.
My thoughts on this are - If cells are to proliferate, then they must exist in the first place, so making the assumption that Valter Longo is correct and that I have regenerated some β cells by FMD then it seems to me a good plan would be to let those cells settle in for a while and then "flex"...
I wasn't aware of that - Interesting indeed. You have obviously done more digging than I have. :)
And it might explain something .
After my first FMD session, I saw improvements coming in between the 3rd and 8th day after resuming normal eating. Then it levelled off. However about 2 1/2 weeks...
No problem - I'm with you on that.
Many years ago I was discussing type 1 & 2 with my consultant who said - "Eventually most Type 1's turn into Type 2's and most Type 2's turn into Type 1's"
Dave.
Agreed.
They are both very good ways to keep control of your weight however, which is what I was using the 5:2 for. And of course keeping your weight under control does make it easier to keep your diabetes under control, but it is in no way a cure (for T1). And some prior experience of fasting...
I have never been a regular breakfast eater, but after my initial T1 diagnosis in '96 I started doing toast every morning to fit in with the "diabetes plan" that I had been given.
However I was never really hungry first thing in the morning, so eventually when I went from pre-mixed insulin onto...
I finish my 2nd fast in the morning - The first 2 days were fairly easy, next two days were tough going as was this morning but felt miles better this afternoon / evening.
I guess it's just getting used to running on ketones ?
Blood sugars have been very stable during the fast, and I have cut...
Hi H4C.
Nice to see somebody else having a stab at this.
Just gone into keto today (day 2 of my second fast).
I haven't done LCHF - well, not "properly" I am a regular eater most of the time although I do try to limit the portion size of "white carbs" on my plate when I eat at home...
Next update - for anyone who's still interested -
2nd April - it's been 4 weeks since I finished my 1st session of the FMD.
On the diet I lost 8 lbs in 5 days, I have now put half of that back on and I am now 12 st 10lb.
I had glucose going low, requiring lowering my basal rates from day 3...
Update 1 week in from resuming regular eating...... and ....
It's all looking pretty good so far....... :D
After finishing the semi-fast I had to drop to 90% of my basal insulin straight off (I'm putting this down to simple weight reduction)
Then 3 days in, I started getting some unexplained...
Thanks for that - It's a long vid so I only watched the last 1/4 - yes there was some mention that overdoing the feeding at first could be a bad thing, especially after a long fast. (way more than 5 days)
Also I found a mention online the other day that Dr. Longo's ProLon diet instructions...
