How much Insulin you are taking? Just curious

I'm on 18 units Lantus daily which seems to keep me stable at around 6 provided I only eat around 8 carbs per meal. I also take 1 X Forxiga daily. Guess I'm lucky compared with a lot of others on this site. I do find that a good walk (at least 5 miles daily) can reduce my Lantus to 14 or 16...

    Insulin to Carb ratio

I take 18units of basal Lantus one a day. It lasts me at least 24 hours and if I keep my carb intake low, I don't need to take Novorapid. So basically only take novorapid when I'm not eating at home. When I do, I find that for me (and we are all different) I need 3 units of bolus for every 10...

Amount of insulin injected in one go.

I am on Lantus and I inject 18 units once daily. However, to keep to this number I keep my carbs quite low. I have found, empirically, that I need about 5 units per 5 carbs, or one for one, though this is an approximation. I read your daily intake and that would send me sky high and would...

    Living Better with Diabetes!

I've been pretty good maintaining my levels but although I'm a T2 I'm on insulin so can't aim for the non-diabetic range as this could be dangerous I believe. Happy to maintain my bloods around 6. I put on a heap of weight through using a fast acting insulin to support my naughty eating for the...

    Testing strips

My meter has died and I have unused testing strips which are now not needed as my surgery has switched me over to a different make. Can I sell these on eBay - is it ethical to do so? In a quandary as the cash would be useful but I feel uncomfortable about it.

Help please about long term travel

We did the same last year and I have Solostar too. I bought Frio insulin travel wallets which I used between stops. Everywhere was great about using their fridges. They keep it sufficiently cool not to cause a problem with efficacy. Also can be recharged if you are away from fridges. Worked...

Can anyone PLEASE help me make sense of where I am?

I'm on Lantus and get on well with it too. I have found though, to keep my BG readings decent and not actually put on any weight, that I have to very low carb. I eat no more than 30 carbs a day. We still eat very well but absolutely no bread, rice, pasta, oats, potatoes or other root veggies...

    Stevia

Has anyone had issues with Stevia raising their BG levels? I'm pretty tightly controlled on 20-30g carbs daily but with friends coming for dinner tonight, I tried making a trial crumble using ground almonds, butter and stevia, and also used stevia to sweeten the rhubarb. I didn't find the...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Today B. Avocado and feta mash L. Cauliflower cheese with Brussels and broccoli D. Will be. An aubergine gratin followed by Greek yoghurt. Defo a cheese day. Yum. Getting great readings, so am reducing insulin by two units this evening.

    Ketostix

Hi, I've been low carbing successfully for 9 months now. BG reading averaging around 5.8, managed to reduce meds, so now only on 16 units Lantus and 1 X Forxiga daily. Great improvement. I thought it might be helpful to see if I was achieving ketosis to aid weight loss so have bought some...

I may be ready to power the National Grid.

Check out fruit too as these contain more carbs than you realise. Don't forget rice too, pastry, and root veggies. There is an app called Carbs & Cals which is very helpful. Good luck over Christmas

    I'm as mad as hell!!

Exactly my experience too! I can't believe the doctors were getting me to do an exclusion diet/fodmap when within 12 hours of stopping M glucophage, things went back to pre-Metformin ways. I suffered for 10 years! Now on insulin and life is SO much better.

Blood sugars geting higher despite low carb diet

This happened to me and I found that I needed to do some exercise - 8m bike rides, a couple of times to get it back down to my previous levels, and then just 5 miles two or three times a week to keep it down. It did go up a bit initially but then went down about 12 hours later. It was as if I...

Type 2 , Just been put on insulin ,Scared

I went onto insulin - Lantus, in January, supported by Forxiga and Glibencamide. It took a little while to get things right but life is much better now with testing coming in around 5.5 most of the time. I found that once daily injections suit me, and unlike most people I have this at 6pm...
