    Daily carb limit

Thanks Fergus ... as someone else said recently, I have learnt more from these forums in the past couple of weeks than I have over the years I have had diabetes.

    help

Hi Ang - where are you in Cornwall? Our cottage is near Liskeard. Ang, do you have a formula for testing ... do you try porridge and test, then muesli and test, or is it just trial and error? I'm now keeping a food/exercise/BS diary (started Monday!) to see if I can tell from that what I can...

    Daily carb limit

This must have been asked before but I can't find anything easily. How many carbs, roughly, should one aim to eat in a day? That may be like asking how long is a piece of string, but is there a rough guide? Also, I received the Collins Gem Carb Counter today, and I see they list "net carbs"...

    help ???

Thanks Fergus. Is it not dangerous to play around with insulin? My doctor was very specific about how much I should take (32 units at night, 20 in the morning).

    Newly diagnosed.

Hi Doug, and welcome. These message boards are amazing, there are so many knowledgable people, and you will get a lot of good advice and encouragement. I have had diabetes for a long time but am only just getting around to working out a diet that works, and that is due mostly to the help I...

    help ???

Thanks Fergus. Well, I didn't have a hypo!!! I had a small amount of ice cream before going to bed just in case. Can hypos during the night/in your sleep be dangerous? I am now waiting to hear from my doc as to whether I need to reduce my insulin. I have to say, eating low carb (except...

Tonight 2 hrs after dinner BS was 9 -- much lower than usual for me ( usally 15-20...when I wasn't controlling my diet ). They are usually much higher than this and I take 32 units of Levemir...

    Foot massage and exercise

Thank you, but I just wondered if stimulating the circulation regularly in the feet (feet that are currently fine and seemingly healthy) can prevent necrosis in the long term.

    Foot massage and exercise

I do - I get my husband to massage my feet a lot!! But my question was, does anyone know if this prevents diabetic-related problems with your feet.

    Foot massage and exercise

Does anyone know if regularly having your feet massaged, and walking every day, helps avoid any diabetic-related problems with your feet long-term?

Foot update 4 - not good news

Hi Steve. Things might not be too bad, so don't worry too much. PAD apparently affects around 8 million Americans, and by the age of 65, around 15 per cent of the population has it. As long as it is treated, you should be OK. Good luck, and keep us informed.

    Foot "tickle"

Does anyone else suffer from this? I have slight neuropathy in my feet, and from time to time I get a feeling like someone is tickling me from INSIDE my feet!! It drives me nuts when it happens, as scratching is has no effect. Anyone else have this - or indeed any other strange symptom?

    What happened?

Thank you Sue. So what can I eat for breakfast, when I really can't face eggs, or meat, or vegetables so early in the morning?

    What happened?

Hi all. I am in the process of getting my blood sugars under control, and testing various foods to see what works and what doesn't. Yesterday I had scrambled egg and bacon for breakfast and my BS were 8. Today I had porridge with Splenda and they were 20 (my sugars are very often this high...

    The Ideal Diet?

Thank you Karen for a really helpful response. Everyone has been great with their input, and it has helped me to realise exactly what I should be doing. I have ordered the carb book that was suggested and with that I hope to be able to work out exactly how many carbs I can cope with. I have...

    The Ideal Diet?

Fergus ... you say the diet "couldn't be simpler". But if that was the case there wouldn't be 12 million obese people in the UK, and 33,000 diabetics wouldn't be dying each year. Most people who join slimming clubs put the weight back on. So I think it is too simplistic to say the diet is...

    The Ideal Diet?

Hi Hanadr ... oh my goodness, your reply did depress me. I am such a carb junkie ... you say you are a convert to a low carb diet - how did you do it? How did you start? I can eat green leafy veg and salads in moderation, but I just can't eat much, this sounds silly but it makes me gag. How...

BS levels high despite increased insulin

Hi Totsy ... well, I have been eating all the bad things, but I really am starting to get myself sorted out, but I will need help from you guys - you're all so much more educated on this than me. I have ordered that book from Amazon and hope it helps.

    The Ideal Diet?

I really need help here. Firstly, can you tell me how to get started. Literally, talk to me as if I was an idiot. Do I need to weigh all my foods first? How do I test, and how do you tell what raises your blood sugars - if I am eating every couple of hours during the day, and interspersing...
