first pregnancy and terrified about BMs

Thanks for the responses, Emma congrats on your pregnancy! How far along are you at the moment? Is this your first pregnancy? I'm loving the fact we can share thoughts and experiences on this website at a time when we can't talk to others. Other than my husband of course but then he's not...

first pregnancy and terrified about BMs

Thanks for the advice Emmie. Congrats on your pregnancy! How's it going otherwise? Any bad symptoms? I saw my consultant this morning and he was telling me much the same...relax! None of the spikes are over 10 so apparently I need to chill a bit and stop panic correcting. I just want to get...

    carb free breakfast

Hi, I follow a very low carb diet and tend to keep breakfast carb free by eating eggs. Last week I found out I'm pregnant and am struggling with eggs this week due to nausea....does anyone have any advice on carb free/very low carb breakfasts which may be more palatable at this time? Thanks! Jess

first pregnancy and terrified about BMs

Hi, I'm a type 1 on a pump and have just found out last week that I'm pregnant for the first time. Am absolutely delighted about this but finding myself terrified every time my BM goes above 7! Am finding myself over-correcting as a result. Did anyone come up with a good way of dealing with this...

    insulin pump and skin infections

Thanks Sam, I use the medtronic with the mio set. I get irritation most of the time but these infections are different and quite horrid. Think I'll fire an email to my diabetes nurse to see if she has any suggestions. Thanks, Jess Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    insulin pump and skin infections

Hi, I am a pump user and over the last 6 months have had 2 bad infections from pump sites which have resulted in needing antibiotics (thankfully avoided admission to hospital). Has anyone else had this problem? Did you come up with any ways of avoiding this? I am changing my pump site every 2-3...

    Bg hour after meals

I agree that carb counting is essential, unfortunately this isn't good enough for me. Despite having exactly right insulin:carb ratio and counting correctly my bm still spikes and then crashes and my consultant hasn't been able to sort it out so low carbs whilst miserable at times is the only...

    Bg hour after meals

Yep, lots of veg esp greens. So breakfast is eggs and bacon/salmon or something like that, lunch salad, dinner meat/fish with green veggies. Snack of nuts. Only having fruit if have a hypo as find fruit shoots my BMs up too much. Have recently invested in a new juice thing called a nutribullet...

    Bg hour after meals

Just realised that didn't read right.....it was meant to say NO carbs. Sorry if confusing! Basically I only get to have carbs if I hypo, nothing with meals and none in snacks. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Bg hour after meals

I agree it is really tough and the only way I've managed to do it is by essentially cutting down to almost carbs. It's not fun but it seems to be working (to my great annoyance in some ways)! I've got a pump and cgms and this was the only way I could do it after 18months of intense fiddling with...

    Pregnant and paranoid

That would make more sense but not always possible, the DSN is more important than the midwife at this stage (don't tell the midwife I said that!) as it's your glucose control that is important. Good luck on Tuesday! Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Pre pregnancy

You're right...they were talking rubbish....best to go way before then as lots of planning better for overall outcomes and will help you feel better about things. Good luck! Jess Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Pregnant and paranoid

Hi, It is normal for your insulin requirements to fall in the first trimester and then rise afterwards, I.e. After 12 weeks. Have you contacted your healthcare team? They should be able to organise an early scan for you on the basis of you being diabetic. I would say try to relax but I know...

    Pre pregnancy

Hi, You should ask for referral now for pre-preg counselling. That way you will have time to make preparations they want. Ideally they will want your hba1c as close to 6.1 as possible, you will need folic acid 5mg before pregnancy (to reduce the risk of spina bifida) and if you have any more...

    Protein load spiking BM's

Hi, I'm a type 1 on a pump and CGMS and have recently changed to a low-ish carb diet (70-100g). The main problem I'm finding (other than sometimes being more grumpy) is that protein spikes my BMs up so even if my meal is carb free I'm having to bolus for "carbs" to prevent high's after meals. I...

completely unstable BMs despite a pump...

Thanks for your input....have ordered Jon Walsh's book so will see how it goes. Will also talk to my consultant about differet insulins. I'm on apidra and previously tried novorapid which was a disaster but will ask about bovine insulins. My consultant doesn't think I'm honeymooning anymore...

completely unstable BMs despite a pump...

Hi, I'm 28 and 2 years ago out of the blue was diagnosed with Type 1 DM. For the first year it was fine, being a doctor I didn't have any problems with injecting or doing my BMs. However last October my sugars started to go mental, hypoing at least 2-3times a day and going really high. I was...
