    Macula edema

Hi, I am just hoping for a bit of reassurance please. I am 40 years old and have had type 1 diabetes for 24 years. I have got macula edema in both eyes, and have to go back in July, as at the moment my sight is good, and no treatment is required. I am just very scared as I’m guessing that it is...

Thank you for your message, it it much appreciated. I feel very frightened as I have been told that I need to get my control sorted once and for you. I try so hard and have such awful control, and that is what is scary. If I can’t sort this, I fear it will just get worse and I will end up blind.

I have been for my OCT scan tonight, and I do have some swelling in the macula in my left eye. I have to go back in two months time to see if it has improved or if I need to start treatment. To be honest, I am very frightened. If this is now an ongoing thing forever, surely the chances of going...

Thank you all very much for the information and advice. I will have the OCT scan and go from there. I am just wondering why do people still go blind, if there are these treatments now? Do they not always work? Thanks again.

    Maculopathy letter

Hi all, I am hoping for some advice please, as I am feeling pretty anxious and scared. I have been on the surveillance eye screening programme for nearly a year now, due to maculopathy. It went to 6 months and is now back to 3, due to the fact that there are more areas of damage near to the...

Oh wow , that is amazing, you must be so relieved. I had a small area in the right eye which cleared up on its own. However, the left eye is new, and now has a few dots around the macula which is a worry. I am hoping it will clear by itself but not so sure this time.

Does diabetic maculopathy always end up with blindness eventually, or can treatment still this happening entirely? Thank you.

Hello I am hoping for some reassurance if possible please. I went to the opticians last week, and she said she could see some diabetic damage to the area near to my macula on my left eye. She did an OCT scan, and this also showed the same. Due to my retinal screening being in a couple of weeks...
