Over the moon - my first 6-month review.

If only I could share all the bookmarks on my laptop under HEALTH, and then under a growing number of sub-folders. If you have a specific area of interest simply start a thread, and someone should get back to you. Geoff

    Low Carb, Low Fat Confusion!

To back up @Resurgam here's an interesting article : https://www.drkellyann.com/have-a-history-of-gallstones-then-say-yes-to-dietary-fats/ Geoff

Open Heart Surgery in real time Ch5

A 69 yr old is having his aorta replaced. On Channel 5 right now. Recorded in real time. This is NOT my recent procedure, which was minimally invasive, but rather is a sternotomy. This may interest the medically curious. Those of a nervous disposition should look away now. Geoff

Over the moon - my first 6-month review.

It means you've greatly reduced your heart risk. Many consider the trigs/HDL ratio to be the best indicator of future heart risk, and the big reduction of your trigs has greatly reduced this ratio. Hopefully your trigs will continue to fall. Well done mate ! Geoff

    Type 2 Type 1 or 2

Just for clarity, the GAD test is only definitive if you test positive. 25% of T1s/LADAs test negative. Geoff

Twitter threads on why most GP's won't suggest low carb

"Multiple studies demonstrate that T1DM patients experience an average of 0.5 to 5 severe hypoglycemic events every year" I've been on insulin (Novorapid/Levemir) for 2 1/2 years. I've never had a severe hypoglycemic event. I've read about them on this forum, but never experienced something I've...

    Will someone please shoot Desmond.

** Thought Police alert ** You appear concerned over something the OP NEVER said. Rather he stated "Might start a not a Desmond course for thin diabetics". implying he felt the help was inappropriate for him. He didn't say he wouldn't welcome appropriate help. You state later that you're trying...

    Will someone please shoot Desmond.

You're doing the same with me now. 'Interpreting' my comments, and misrepresenting them. I'm replying because you've added something new to the thread. I would encourage ALL diabetics to learn about healthy eating, healthy lipid panels, statins etc. Geoff

    Will someone please shoot Desmond.

For MOST people, dieting is ALL repeat ALL about losing weight. Diet (in the generally accepted meaning) is to healthy eating what health is to fitness. They sound similar but they're NOT the same. I think you're interpreting comments and adding your own understanding. I'll make no further...

    Will someone please shoot Desmond.

He was started on them 20 years ago. Totally different health environment. I may have taken them then ** shudders at the thought ** Geoff p.s. He doesn't connect size with diet, but with feeling in the right place. He and others rejected "what was on offer". I wonder if he's a Libra ? Geoff

    Will someone please shoot Desmond.

Then add me to your 'concerned' list. I declined the offer of a Desmond course, as well as the offer of speaking to a dietitian. Unlike @Old Chuffer I didn't even make Day One, so had no experience to make my judgment on. Some of us are capable of getting along in life largely without the aid...

    Magnesium oil

"Diabetes and foot complications Soaking the feet can dry out the skin, which can further irritate the foot issues common to people with diabetes. Individuals with the condition tend to have dry feet, as well as nerve damage resulting from diabetic neuropathy. Prolonged soaking can also open...

    Magnesium oil

Without realising it, I've set my investigative brain going, and may have found the root cause of my aortic stenosis, which recently led to valve replacement surgery. Prior to tonight, the nearest I'd got was that gout sufferers had a higher incidence of aortic stenosis. Note the last words of...

    Magnesium oil

And don't forget, magnesium is about the best thing you could take for your heart. This is just one article about it http://www.todaysgeriatricmedicine.com/archive/050613p30.shtml Geoff p.s. it doesn't only apply to geriatrics !

    Carnivore diet

Low carbing gained ground because people started reporting personal results from adopting it. The same is probably true of the carnivore diet, the reported results of which are to be found here http://meatheals.com You can see if your medical condition is among those reported as improved or...

    Urinating every 30 minutes

You may be experiencing a honeymoon coming abruptly to an end. When this happened to me (and I was still pre-insulin), it happened at the same time as me bumping my head badly, and I was convinced I'd triggered Diabetes Insipidus. Liquid would just pass through me, regularly, and I could set my...

Heart attacks and Type 2 Diabetes

It depends which cardiologist you listen to. Here's an article from top UK cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/51/15/1111 (Saturated fat does not clog the arteries: coronary heart disease is a chronic inflammatory condition, the risk of which can be effectively reduced...

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly; Blood Work

https://www.nahypothyroidism.org/inadequacy-of-thyroid-stimulating-hormone-test/ I'm 100% in agreement with @DCUKMod. I find I'm better on Natural Dessicated Thyroid (T4 and T3)along with a 'suppressed' TSH. My GP would sooner have me on Levothyroxine, and treat me according to my TSH. Geoff

this whole thing is a crock of ****

Could it be anything to do with the need to restrict metformin for scans ? The same applies for walk-in patients, undergoing a scan. Easier to have the patient ready for a scan at the drop of a hat. Geoff
