It's the triglycerides, not the cholesterol

This tweet references a study, but when viewing the study I can't open the tables. Luckily the tweet shows Table 2. Note how the top line of the table shows M.I. risk (myocardial infarction or heart attack) for those with a cholesterol of 6.3 mmol/L or higher. Those with the lowest trigs share...

New partner is type 1 diabetic, need advice

Please read the following : https://report.nih.gov/NIHfactsheets/ViewFactSheet.aspx?csid=120 The number dying from T1D within 25 years of diagnosis has fallen from 33% in the 1950 to 7% now. Many still cling on to that notion of T1D being somewhat of a death sentence. What makes the difference...

Does Low Carb have any other benefits ?

Just clicked the first link from my post above. Worked for me. I'm suggesting the OP uses Barry Groves website as a signpost for investigation, not a sacred text. If you've looked into it further and come to your own conclusion that's fine. Geoff

Does Low Carb have any other benefits ?

The late Barry Groves was a UK-based early proponent of a low carb diet, and his website is a good place to start. http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/index.html#.WnLnCdSWTiw If you click on any medical condition listed down the left side of the page, a page opens with 'causes', often carbs. He...

    I dont understand my results

Hi tk I would assume your HbA1c was 118, and that (h) denotes high. Sounds like you're saying that a fasting blood glucose test was 19.1 which is definitely high. Your ketones suggest/confirm (if the above assumptions are true) that your raging high blood sugars are edging towards Diabetic...

    Cholesterol and diabetes

Following on from writing his blog, Dr Briffa wrote to the BHF. Here he discusses their reply : http://healthinsightuk.org/2013/10/04/how-the-british-heart-foundation-chose-to-ignore-clear-evidence-of-the-dangers-of-stanols-for-cholesterol-lowering/ Muddier and muddier :banghead: Geoff

    Cholesterol and diabetes

It appears there is : "In summary, noncholesterol sterols serve no physiologic function in man. All sterols are atherogenic if they accumulate in the arterial wall. Stanols are saturated sterols. They are not absorbed and can be used therapeutically to reduce cholesterol absorption from the...

    Cholesterol and diabetes

I see that Briffa addresses both as the same problem. I tend to look askance at anything recommended by a Heart Association on the 'fool me once' principle. Heart healthy grains ? Need to look at Zoe H. again. Geoff

    Cholesterol and diabetes

Zoe Harcombe (and I suspect others I can't remember) is no fan of plant sterols : http://thescipub.com/abstract/10.3844/ojbsci.2014.167.169 My reading of this article is that in a move to reduce the risk of CVD, you may increase it. Once you know cholesterol isn't the problem, but inflammation...

Hiii, I’m back and feeling positive[emoji18]

There are lots of positives in there Megan (?). Coping with T1D and being a teenager can't be easy. Award your yourself double Brownie points :) Were you able to identify the possible cause of that hypo ? Noting food/carb intake and bolus administered may help making a possible connection. Hope...

    Dawn Phenomena

Are you happy your basal is sufficient ? Perhaps time to test it. 17 doesn't strike me as Dawn Phenomenon. Sounds like you may be asking your bolus doses to do your basal's job. I take Levemir a.m. and p.m. Geoff

https://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-complications/diabetic-ketoacidosis.html Your opening post doesn't say if you've been put on insulin. DKA occurs in the absence of sufficient insulin. Geoff
