Hi from a new Type1 member

To me it sounds as if you have regained your positivity again? It's easy to become complacent .. or to go through stages of feeling fed up with it all. I have type 2, but certainly have felt that way too. We need determination to be the best that we are and the healthiest we can be. Fight on ...

    Hair loss

It WILL be the diabetes. I am sure of it since my iron and thyroid are fine, all my vital organs are too and I've no deficiency in any vitamins or minerals either, so it leads me to summize that only the diabetes can have affected my hair. On a brighter note though, I have noticed no hair loss...

    Hair loss

I hope your doctor is more helpful than mine was! All she said to me was "Oh, my brother's losing his hair too. You could try Regain but it's expensive and we don't prescribe it I'm afraid" When I asked if it was due to my diabetes or Metformin drugs she just said she has never heard of any link :(

    Hair loss

Yes yes YES! I have had lots of hair falling out over about the last 6 months. I mentioned it to my doctor but she didn't link it to either the diabetes or the Metformin but I am convinced it IS linked! My hair is really thin now, and so far I haven't found a cure I'm afraid :(

    New to diabetes.

Oh dear .... what an awful experience for you and the receptionist had no right spouting out all that information on the telephone to you! I was at least asked to come see my doctor to discuss blood test results, and no more than that. It's a whirlwind at first isn't it. I took a few weeks to...

    1st appointment

All true. Knowledge is power. You will feel more positive and much more confident when you come out of the appointment. Good luck

Type 2 Battery life of BG Meter

I have only had my SD Codefree meter for a month, and some days have only used it at midday meal time (before and after) but I have just gone to test and the meter is dead! Is it normal for the battery to expire so quickly? I am rather shocked it's gone so soon :(

    High blood sugar

I'm really no expert but hope someone on here can advise you. What I would say though ... if it were me, then I'd be going to talk to either my diabetic nurse or my doctor. It may be that you need time to settle back into your eating routine and that it will level back out again? Get some...

    HBa1c as diagnosis

Mine was also fine both before, and two hours after eating BUT someone told me to check after just ONE hour and I was always high! Anything from 9.9 to 11.3 so it was a shock! Have you tested after an hour at all? You might spike high, just like me!

    Still confused by my readings

So really it just shows that it's not always about the food itself, but of what we have been doing in between our meals I suppose?

    Still confused by my readings

WOW! That's amazing! Our bodies are an enigma for sure!

    Still confused by my readings

Yes I think I have to agree with that actually. I just wonder why we are never told to test earlier ... just to check how high our levels rise by? So many of us could be unaware that we spike as early as three quarters of an hour after meals, and think all is fine because the two hour reading is...

    Still confused by my readings

Yes I could try that/ I'm so reluctant to give up morning cereal though. I do have eggs for lunch ...either scrambled or asw a cheese omelette. Today I tried porridge ... make it in the dish you're about to eat it in by the way, not in a pan. Saves on washing up!!! Ha haa. Anyway my bg went to...

    Still confused by my readings

Ahhh well I didn't take a reading prior to breakfast as it is usually the same (6.2) and I didn't want to use up the few test strips still left. I've never been higher than 6.2 before breakfast though. I eat a concoction of flax, chia, pumpkin and sunflower seeds mixed with some oats, about five...

    Still confused by my readings

My bg reading an hour after breakfast today was 9.3. I re-tested half an hour later and it was 6.7 so I'm feeling happy that this is good? Perhaps I should give up taking the hour readings!

    Still confused by my readings

Ahhh ... now you see I didn't know that, so thanks for pointing it out to me. I feel better knowing this fact :)

    Still confused by my readings

Watched the tv programme the other night about diabetes type 2 and it was mentioned on there about testing glucose levels two hours after the first mouthful of food. Yes ... I always ALWAYS used to do this, and get readings no more than 7.7 However I have since found out that my high spike is...
