    Cholesterol shot up statins required??

I've been doing strict low carb for about 5 months. The total cholestorol is up to 8.2 from 6.5 three months ago. HDL the good one also gone up to 2.22 and LDL up to 5.7. The total cholestorol: HDL ratio is 3.7. Not sure what to make of it all... I'm hoping it will settle down as you say fergus...

    Cholesterol shot up statins required??

Hello there, just wondering if anyone has seen their cholesterol levels shoot up eating a low carb diet? I've been eating tons and tons of eggs (maybe up to 10 or 12 a week), loads of olive oil, mayonnaise, avocados.... could this be linked to high cholestoral levels and is this a danger? I...

    Looking for a friend

Hi samJB Thanks for your post it totally makes sense to me. Just wondering whether you skip taking QA insulin completely ever? On the dafne course we were told to count carbs in 1:1 ratio so one unit for 10g of carbs. If its less than 10g don't count it. So would you take nothing if you just ate...

    Ketosis or Ketoacidosis???

Brett I had no idea that finding the perfect background insulin dose was such an art form. I can feel the extra am dose of Lantus is kicking in now four days later! But have had consecutive hypos in the morning so now thinking I need to reduce my pm BI as I start increasing the morning one. Is...

    Ketosis or Ketoacidosis???

Noblehead you mentioned you split the dose for your chips. Does that mean you take half before eating and half after the meal? Is that only for certain foods? I've also noticed BG steadily increasing into the evening after dinner and wonder if this would help? Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Ketosis or Ketoacidosis???

Hello everyone, Can I pick your brains as am freaking out quite a lot!! Just finished a Dafne course which I found generally really good. I think they have isolated the problem of my consistently raising BG throughout the day (probably due to not enough Lantus in the system). I take 16 units at...

    injecting extra novorapid AM

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could let me know if I am doing the right thing. When I wake up in the morning lately my sugars have been sky high - high teens and 20s - is it okay to take a extra shot of novorapid before breakfast (usually i take about 7 units) just to bring my sugars down to...

Is it okay to vary insulin doses on a daily basis?

Hello, Since reading this forum I have been changing my diet to cut out refined carbs, of which I was eating a lot of, to bring down my very high blood sugar levels. This seems to be really working for me which is excellent! However eating less carbs means I am also getting a lot of hypos now...

Does diet matter for a type 1?

this advice is incredible thanks so much to everyone. I realise I have no clue at all about how to carb count - I just thought the right thing to do was to heavily base every meal on carbs so my diet is always big bowls of pasta, rice, potatoes, whole grain bread - loads of carbs with every...

Hello everyone, I'm a T1 diabetic, diagnosed 3 years ago at the age of 24. After a long honeymoon period now my sugar levels are going mad and nothing I do seems to be able to control it.
