Yes. Usually with safety cap on, or if I'm feeling particularly conscientious I'll clip the needle first.

2nd Vaccine Dose Reaction/ Symptoms - Do I get Booster?

My first two were Astra Zeneca, mild reaction to both, sore arm, slight temperature. My third was Pfizer, and I would classify that as a bad reaction. Severe aches and pains, bed-bound and semi-unconscious for 24hrs, temperature up to 104F at one point, bg off the top of the meter. Really didn't...

FreeStyle libre graphs on mobile phone

Were you not taught graphs in maths at school? From this graph you started to drop at about 1am, where the line starts going down. You were too low, underneath the red line, from about 6am-8am. Your red line, however, is set at about six mmol/l, which is higher than hypo level. Reading from the...

    Newbie - Medication Quandary

Regarding your family history, you have no record of diabetes, but this doesn't mean your diabetes isn't down to your inherited genes. One generation back, people did more physical exercise and ate a different diet. Two generations back, unless you actually went into dka, you'd probably never be...

New podder and having a bit of a meltdown

Hi, a couple of things. First, if you are a recent type one, it is possible that you still have a bit of insulin production capacity, and your pancreas may be (randomly) deciding whether to work or not. If this is affecting you there's nothing to be done but wait it out. Secondly, it's...

Best quick fix for hypo with tube feeding

Can't say about the coated sweets, they're more likely to make me throw up so I avoid them. Have you got a liquidiser, even one of the little hand held ones? The only time I was on an NG tube was pre-24 months, and my mother told me she would put half an adult portion of their dinner aside...

Best quick fix for hypo with tube feeding

I don't know which would be faster, it might even depend on whether your gastroparesis extends further into slow peristalsis in the intestines. Definitely something to ask a specialist doctor. Just in case you get a sudden appointment, have you made a written list of questions? I tend to come...

    Eye sight

That's really good then. If you still have hypo awareness, it might help your fear if you did a supervised hypo. They offered this to me at diagnosis, but I just wanted out of the hospital. If you know what your hypo symptoms are and how low stops you functioning it might not be such a...

    Eye sight

Running an average of 20? Yes, you should be worried. Spiking to 20 isn't great, but unlikely (IMHO) to do permanent damage. Running at that level is doing damage, and if you don't manage to reduce your blood glucose you will do permanent, irreversible damage. I ran too high, about the same...

Best quick fix for hypo with tube feeding

I have a similar pattern. Something triggers me to throw up > blood glucose drops like a rock > need to absorb glucose > eating/drinking glucose makes me throw up. The best my doc (senior diabetes consultant in a hospital diabetes centre) has come up with is buccal (next to gum) antiemetic...

    MRI scans with insulin pumps

My pump set-up has a metallic needle in the insert patch, so must totally come out. Not a big deal though, you can even stick the same needle back on afterwards if you're OK with its cleanliness. Must note here - taking the pump off and leaving in your bag in the MRI room is not acceptable. The...

Help! Type 1 for 16years-antibodies negative!

The results mean you aren't producing enough insulin. Unless you have been type two for years and worn out your pancreas, it's likely to be an autoimmune reaction. GAD aren't the only type of antibodies, they're just the most common and frequently tested for. If you have been type two and taken...

Help! Type 1 for 16years-antibodies negative!

There are a few cases where people have had zero insulin production, been diagnosed as type one, then years later have been found to have some insulin production. I'm one of them, at diagnosis GAD was high, c-pep below detection, and now GAD is zero, c-pep low end of normal. This confuses at...

Help! Type 1 for 16years-antibodies negative!

This is what is expected for a type one. 16 years ago you had an auto-immune reaction that killed off all your insulin-producing cells. Once all these cells are dead, there is nothing left to cause this reaction and no more antibodies are produced. Your test results mean your body is no longer...

University Project - Making A Documentary about living with Type 1 Diabetes

Only young adults? Are you allowed to be ageist? People have type 1 from age zero to the very old. Possibly you want the newly diagnosed, as they are the ones fighting through misinformation and learning to tell stigma to stuff off.

    Freestyle Libre 2 data encryption

Mental health issues. Don't have, can't use a mobile. Which isn't Abbot's fault, but their attitude was basically 'tough, we don't care and aren't interested '.

    Freestyle Libre 2 data encryption

I've already been back-and-forth with Abbot on this. I have a really slow downlink at home, it's so slow I can't download the LibreLink software. Which means I can't upload my data to any form of internet, my consultant can't see it and historical data doesn't get stored. Do Abbot care? No...

    Visiting the UK

'Primary care' is free. You may have to register with a GP. If the practice turns you down (since you are not a UK resident), they are still required to provide 'any immediately necessary treatment '. I think prescription of insulin should qualify. (Source: www.gov.uk, NHS entitlements: migrant...

    huge amounts of insulin?

You should be using whatever dose you need to keep your blood glucose OK. In the past I have been all the way up to 900u per day, now at 400-500u per day. I'm on the Humulin u500 concentrated insulin.
