Good pump clinic in East Midlands/ London/ Taunton??

Hi I used to be under Taunton. It all depends on which consultant you get as there is one excellent one one rubbish one and a few alright at times ones (my personal opinion). The pump nurse that was amazing in taunton retired a few years ago and I didn't get a chance to meet the new one...

    Sunbeds and pumps

Yes just take the pump bit off leave your set in where the plaster bit is it should just slide out with a squeeze of the sides or some twist. set it somewhere not near the light off the bed and you'll be fine. I doubt the sunbed people will have a clue.

I personally detach and put back on after as the heat is quite intense. I never been in more than 9 mins so never had any problems.

    Little help?

Some times I can be over 200% which I know is extreme for some! 140% would be quite low for me, but my hormones have that extra kick! If it's a once in a blue moon thing don't stress about it you can only deal with what you can do in the moment. Hope it settles soon.

    Are fats evil?

Unfortunately no way to avaoid them, even if you eat organic, they will still accumulate over the years. It did make me wonder though, when the girl suggested people be tested he completed agreed and said we should, but we aren't. The hospital has some of my liver that could easily be tested I...

    Are fats evil?

Not wanting to get into a low carb debate, but would just like to get your opinions on a talk I had at university today. I study environmental science, although I specialise in micro, I'm trying to get more into the chemical aspects which will help with jobs etc. The talk was by a professor...

    Little help?

I would do a temp basal as well as extra bolus if you've been consistently high for over a day and nothing else works. Keep an eye on stacking though!

CGM & Correct target glucose range

What % do manage between 4.4-11.0. On some occasions I just have to discount a few days as i know It's just my hormones playing up. I'm hoping to get 80% for 6 months but it's not happened yet so who knows may be impossible or not.

CGM & Correct target glucose range

Well I started on 4.4- 11.0 as that's the default settings, I've now brought it down to 4.4-10.0 as I gradually learning about how my bolus timing and bgs work together, as well as excersise, stress, hormones etc. Been a big learning curve as before I never really tested straight after eating...

    Loss,of funding

Well, just because he's been unable or has forgotten about a few appointments (the letters do get sent out sometimes about 6 months in advance) doesn't mean they don't take it seriously! They may be absolutely fine have great control with a lot going on at the minute you don't know and it's not...

    Back-up insulin

Cheapest and easiest for me is just syringes, I always have one or two spare in what ever hand bag or backpack I have in the car as well, they cost like £2.50 for a pack of 20, the vials of humalog we have for filling our cartridges cost about £10 for 10ml the pen cartridges or pens cost £50 for...

    Loss,of funding

Hi, I would just get in touch with either your GP or your clinic as quickly as possible and sort it out. You can go to your GP for your care if you want to, I only see the nurse at the GP's she takes my blood and keeps a note of my BGs for stuff like renewing driving license etc. Recently I...

    How Many Carbs.....

Round about 100g a day although can vary anything from 50g up to 150g, depends on what I'm doing excersice, or just wanting a treat. I do have the odd occasions when I go out for dinners christmas etc where it goes up to 300, for example on Thursday I'm going back to Northern ireland. It's...

    How do I get

Hi unfortunately no not everyone can have one, you have to have the backing of your doctor in that they need to say one would be beneficial for your care. This descion is useually based on the NICE guidelines, which at the minute reccomend pumps for people with a HbA1c over 8.5%, and who have...

    Silly mistake pumping?

best way to take the sticky off I've found is always in the shower, I'm quite hairy on my tummy and legs and arms, so it saves on the extra pain of waxing!!

    Maybe coming off pump

Hopefully you'll get a better price, Sorry to hear about your eyes. I know what you mean about the standard deviation of control, In my opinion I would rather be stable and a few points higher on the HbA1C scale than in target but zipping up and down. I remeber going in and getting told off...

    How much insulin

As well as if you need to lose weight or gain it etc I think it all depends on your actual body weight, for instance a 50kg 160cm women would need less than a 90Kg 200cm man (numbers pulled out of the air but you get the idea). When starting someone off on injections or a sliding scale at the...

    Thinking of CGM

Hi Duneplodder, The transmitter has a warranty for 9 months but most seem to work for on average about a year, I'm not sure what the warranty is on the reciever as mine is my pump. As soon as you start using the transmitter is when it lasts for as there is a little magnetic in the packaging...

    Maybe coming off pump

Hi Platinum, it's the same sensors that we use I just get mine from animas which appear to be cheaper than where you get yours from, but that might just be because I'm a pump customer of theirs but it's worth a call to find out. As it's the same sensor yes they last longer my last one was in...

    Pumps and CGM - accuracy

Hi Sally, I have the dexcom and vibe, before I got it I did a lot of reading and found the dexcom to give by far the most accurate readings. I found the freestyle to have some of the least favourable reviews. All the CGMs on the market were tested during a trial for a closed loop system and...
