H, I have a Dexcom CGM, and the target glucose range is set from 4.4 - 7.21. I am just wondering is this range too tight, as when i check up my graphs and pie charts etc, at least 50% of the time i am out of range - would a target of 4.4 - 9 be better and more realistic. Or should i really try and keep to the 4.4 - 7.21 range
Thanks

Well I started on 4.4- 11.0 as that's the default settings, I've now brought it down to 4.4-10.0 as I gradually learning about how my bolus timing and bgs work together, as well as excersise, stress, hormones etc. Been a big learning curve as before I never really tested straight after eating or every ten minutes after a low or a high. I would just test a wee while later and it would be fine again if things had gone to plan. I think 4.4-7.21 is a bit tight and must be really hard to stay in the green, it might be more realistic to have it 4.4 to 9 and aim to get within that for 80% of the time and when you can do that slowly bring it down so that you're tightening up slowly and gradually. At least that's what I'm planning on doing anyways. 4.4-10 80% of the time for about 6 months straight then I'll bring it down to 9 then maybe 7. We shall see!

Hi pumppimp sorry for the delay in answering. It's really a difficult question :-)
There are weeks when my readings are constantly between 4.5- 6 and then without any apparent reason weeks when it becomes impossible to have decent readings and I have on a daily basis readings above 11. At least with the CGM I can take action immediately. I discussed with the consultant at the imperial college and they don't have an answer apart from adrenalin. One other reason, I was told, is the fact that I have 34 years of diabetes being diabetic since childhood. But to answer your question I guess around 70% are in my range. One important point anyway is that I am avoiding the very high ( > 18)
