    Itchy Spots

I've only found two things which help with eczema/slight rashes. 1. Hydrocortisone .. Which doctors don't like prescribing because it makes the skin thinner. 2 Dab spots with surgical spirit, dry and then put on medicated talcum powder. This shouldn't work, as according to the docs, creams...

Ideal Menu For Type 2 for the day?

Sometimes you are in a rush and haven't planned a menu. Quick tip...if caught having to buy a snack.. Look at the back of the packet, sandwich wrapper etc. Go down the list to where it says; Carbohydrates. Under this it will say.. Of which are sugars.. If this is under 10.. You can eat it.

    REFUSED TEST MACHINE

It would be stupid for a doctor to say that a patient has to go on a diet. The patient will be reviewed in six months.. But in the meantime, the patient is not allowed to get on the scales to see how he/she is getting on. That is what doctors are doing to newly diagnosed patients. I learnt...

Had blood test - and row with doctor !

Change your doctor. If he/she hasn't bothered to grasp the basics on diabetes what are the chances that this person would be much good at anything but basic prescribing?

    Has anyone come off Metformin?

Yes..on it for two years. Started 500, went up to 750x2 but quickly changed to the slow release version as it didn't really suit me. (Stomach pains dizziness ect) This was better. My reading fell from 8.6 to 5.2 in the first six months... Due to diet and, I think, less stress. I asked if...

    My Gastric Band Diary

Hello..I'd be very interested to know how you get on and look forward to reading your diary. For those that think diets are the answer...The difficulty with any diet is that they rarely work for long periods, although I would say that having diabetes would give extra impetus to stick to one...

    Refused blood testing equipment

Its nonsensical not to allow diabetics to monitor their own health. Especially newly diagnosed ones. It is rather like a doctor telling you to go on a diet, then saying you cannot weigh yourself. The fact that you monitor keeps you on the right track. Goodness knows who they tested for the...

    Gloomy email from JDRF

My opinion is, that there is not much point in living to a greatage until science can preserve the brain to a good degreee . Since the only time I had a level of over 13 was the morning before I had a hospital operation ( normal 5.2) and that I am on slow release Metformin, taken the night...

Reasons to be cheerful & nicotine

Persuaded Oh to give up smoking at the same time he bought a new car. Three years later we worked out what he would have spent on cigarettes and with the money he saved, he can now replace the old one. A former smoker myself, I know that the only way to give up is to have a strong incentive...

    10s despite no carbs

My hba1c is 5.2, After a medium portion of white rice, my BG rise to 10 ish. The morning of my operation, when I had eaten nothing but was extremely stressed, it rose to 13 ish. The highest I'd ever seen it. IMO stress affects me more than diet.

    HbA1c confusion in new diabetic

Well that's interesting. My last two tests were 5.1 and 5.2, so I wondered if there was such a thing as going back to be a borderline diabetic. Although if I went back to eating sugar,I'm sure it would go higher. Strangely enough, two years ago, if I ate white rice, my bs would rise to 10...

WHAT AGE WOULD YOU STAY AT?

36 - a nice age for a woman. But it seems to be the age that a few well- known women have died, I'm 62 now, but the salespeople in Boots won't always accept my pensioners Boots card,as they think I look too young. I can't work out whether to be annoyed at having to explain myself, or...

    How does stress affect diabetes.

My father died and a few months later I was diagnosed as type2. So I agree that major stress is a factor for the development of type2 diabetes. Sadly it's almost impossible to guard against some life stresses.

    HbA1c confusion in new diabetic

I read on an American website ( don't laugh) that the way that diabetes is now diagnosed is through the HbA1c result. So if this is under 7, you are not considered diabetic. I'm not sure why this would be, as surely, in America, they would be keen to define diabetics early , given the amount...
