    GI and carbs

Same for me, also considering the fat and protein being eaten which slows absorption of carb.

    Type 1 Diabetic

I take 6 units basal insulin once a day. My bolus dose depends on how many carbs I will eat. I eat about 70 carbs a day. My bolus dose varies between 8 units and 2 units. My insulin to carb ratio also varies, due to time of day and how I feel.

    Sad

Same with my family. Ignore them. It's best to prepare your own food.

    Type 1 diagnosed in February

Welcome to the forums. Do you take fixed doses of rapid-acting insulin; or, do you vary the amount of rapid-acting insulin depending on the amount of carbs you are going to eat?

    Issues with insulin change

Welcome to the forums. Blood glucose going high is usually a result of not enough rapid-acting insulin injected for the amount of carbs eaten. I have changed insulin but the new one worked the same as the old one. Speak to the medics because they may increase the insulin dose. If I were you...

    Glaucoma

I was on my way to going blind with glaucoma which runs in my family. The eye doctor gave me a laser zap in each iris and that stopped the glaucoma from progressing - 16 years later the holes in the iris are still open and working well. I agreed with the other members regarding your blood...

    Keto and weight loss

Are you on fixed doses of insulin; or, do you base the insulin you take on the amount of carbs you eat? If you switch to keto, it will be easier if you are counting carbs and taking insulin to match them, because you need less insulin with less carbs and can adjust your insulin intake...

    Prediabetes Help

Welcome to the forums. The numbers you quote are within acceptable range. According to my meter, up to 10.0 is fine. Being ill or fighting a bug does put blood sugar up for many. Your symptoms could be the common flu. Asking your doctor may put your mind at rest.

Type 2 glucose isn't coming down with medicine or insulin

A diary, or spreadsheet, in which you faithfully record your blood glucose reading just before eating; then record everything you ate and drank at that meal - what foods and how much, so you can calculate the amount of carbs consumed; then take a reading 2 hours after the first bite. This will...

In a bit of a conundrum...

Oh my, you do have so much to contend with - diabetes, arthritis, menopause, OCD, autistic daughter . . . I agree with the members above, that going low carb would be a good start to getting a grip on all this as it will lower your blood glucose and may also reduce the arthritic pain, lighten...

    Hi I’m new here

You may wish to search steroids on this website. I believe I have read here that they do have an impact on blood glucose levels. Also, diet, especially the amount of carbs consumed, is the main player in glucose levels. Do you count carbs? What sort of foods do you typically eat?

    Fibromyalgia

If you want to win never admit defeat, as the saying goes. I'm not in NHS territory, but I certainly found out, especially since covid days, that we have to take responsibility for what we do about our health. The medical professionals advise and the patient decides. Fortunately, Dr Google...

People to talk to is another great thing about this website. Every day there are many members online ready to listen, offer ideas, and sympathize. I am also isolated, for a different reason though. In fact my time on this website is the only "social time" I have, other than asking the grocery...

Type 2 day to day coping strategies to reduce sugars not working

Do you measure your blood glucose just before eating and then again 2 hours after the first bite? You mention eating cake - that will skyrocket blood glucose. If I were you I would accurately record the carbs eaten and glucose readings taken in order to learn how foods are affecting me. I...

    Trying to help my wife

Welcome to the forums. Carbohydrates drive blood glucose up. All carbs convert to sugar once eaten. High blood glucose causes diabetes or worsens it. Others here will agree with me that the diet your wife is following, even though recommended by the dietician, has far too many carbs in it...

    Screwed Emotionally And Physically

I sympathize with your having to cope with so much - it's very hard. If you worry about blood sugar when binge eating, may I suggest looking for low-carb foods to stuff up on, for instance my personal comfort foods are Brie cheese and chicken legs without any breading or carby sauces. I wish...
