    Low-carb pasta and rice

Sorry if there's already been a thread on this and I've missed it, but has anyone tried the low-carb pasta/rice that's been advertised on tv recently? I miss both pasta and rice but these seem too good to be true. I can't help thinking they'll taste horrible

    LCHF Diet

Thanks and yes it does, it's the first time I've ever felt I could carry on with an eating regimen for as long as I need

    LCHF Diet

I started the LCHF on 1st Feb this year, BG has improved, due for a cholesterol test soon. The biggest shock has been that I have never felt hungry but the weight has melted away and I feel great. Slight mishap with a week's holiday in France (first white bread for almost 3 months!) but back on...

    Gliclazide......another question.

I had the same problem, when I took it in the morning I had the beginnings of a hypo most days, therefore I ate more carbs, put on weight, and my Hb1 went up. Dr told me to take it before evening meal which solved the problem, also stopped the weight gain. Luckily I have been taken off it now.

How do your friends and family react to your diagnosis?

I was diagnosed T2 10 years ago. Immediate family were and are great. Extended family too except I think my elderly aunt has forgotten as she recently went on a bit of a rant about 2 diabetic friends of hers who apparently "go on about eating bananas all the time" and according to her it's their...

    "Expert" course

Totto I'm not sure about brave! :) I think it was more that I have (had) an inbuilt trust that says the medical profession know what they are talking about. Anyway, it's probably done me a favour as I now question everything and even told the nurse that I wanted to cut my glic dose due to spells...

    "Expert" course

Yes I agree it depends on area as my friend did one in a neighbouring authority and got lots of good advice. I was just unlucky.

    "Expert" course

After 10 years of reasonable Hba1c results, ranging from 6 to 6.5, I was asked by the practice nurse if I'd like to go on the Expert course. I was asked by an incredulous nurse (the course leader) "why on earth are you self-testing?" I explained that as I'm on Gliclazide I sometimes feel a bit...

    laser eye surgey

Re: laser eye surgery Fuji when did you enquire? If it's a while ago, maybe it's worth asking again in case things have changed. I hate wearing glasses too, never found a pair that aren't constantly sliding down my nose.

    laser eye surgey

Thanks Patch, it's good to hear from someone who has had it done and is pleased with the results. I did suspect it would cost around what you paid. I am still thinking about going ahead. Thanks again Kathryn

    Hypo

I am type 2, diagnosed 6 years ago. I am on metformin and gliclazide(sp?). I have been told by my dr and diabetes nurse specialist that it is not very likely that someone could hypo on metformin (especially if you have recently eaten), but possible on gliclazide. When I have been as low as 3.5...

    laser eye surgey

I am very short-sighted and have astigmatism but wore hard conact lenses (gas permeable) for 20-odd years. Unfortunately I had to change to soft lenses and it took about a year for my prescription to stabilise as the hard lenses push the eyeball into the correct shape and takes ages to go back...

    laser eye surgey

Thanks Spiral From what you have experienced, I think I will just continue with my lenses and glasses. At least if my contact lens is bothering me I can just put another one in! I think the risks are probably too great for diabetics. The cataracts issue bothers me too, I have never heard of that...

    laser eye surgey

Thanks for your quick reply. I am considering surgery but wasn't sure if it was ruled out for diabetics. I was aware of eyesight being affected by glucose levels, so expected there would be many checks before surgery went ahead. I am hoping to hear from anyone who has had surgery, so I can get...

    laser eye surgey

Hi, I am type 2. Does anyone know if that is any bar to having laser eye surgery for short-sightedness? Has anyone had any experience of this? thanks.
