    Alcohol???

When first 'branded' I thought ... that's it - another part of my life over , and I too daaaarent touch drink for about 4 months ... however - and I've said this before.... I used to have a long standing and strong marriage to Stella, however now I've divorced Stella, but have a nice...

    Diagnosed with high HBA1C

The answer is yes you can. My hba1c was 11% on being ‘labelled for life’. Within 6 months it was (and still is) 5.4, and I’ve never taken so much as an aspirin (I hate taking any meds), an I’m now as fit as the proverbial butchers dog! Sadly once you’re ‘branded’ as having Diabetes (I hate the...

    Type 2 : CHRISTMAS TREATS

Breakfast on Christmas Day will be scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on Burgen Bread .... with Champagne. Dinner will be full Christmas dinner WITH roast potatoes, Cranberry Sauce etc .... then sponge pud and custard - no holds barred! .... sod it - it’s Christmas. Then a nice walk in the...

Tesco PLC(GB) no Low Carb option

Tesco have just started doing a ‘low Carb’ bread... it labelled as such. It is like Burgen Bread, but I thought much softer .... and very nice at 9g of Carbs per slice. The slices are just slightly smaller than Burgen Bread and the loaf is smaller in size... funny old thing they have stopped...

    Help!

Oh by the way - I prefer to use the term as 'having diabetes' .... I hate the term 'being diabetic' - which kinda defines what you are, rather than a condition. Arthritic, epileptic, spastic (apologies), are all no longer acceptable to describe people .... but diabetic is! Semantics - maybe...

    Help!

18 months ago on being 'branded' my hba1c was 97. When I actually realised what that meant it literally scared the hell out of me! 18 months later my hba1c is now always consistently in the mid 30s .... and I don't, and have never taken ANY medication.... it can be done. I don't see myself as...

    How were you told?

I had a routine work medical and expected to be told 'Heretic, loose a bit of timber and your BP is borderline' . The nurse took the urine sample and when she came back just dropped into the conversation 'oh it looks like you're diabetic' (I was completely asymptomatic). My blood literally ran...

    Spikes after Sport

Hiya, I am a converted phys junkie and have (currently) kicked this mother into touch! I don't test perhaps as frequently as others, but overall my hba1c numbers (which is the long game here) are showing I dont have diabetes (currently). I enjoy pushing my body further than I have done for...

    Say no more......

They aren't at the top of my list, they're a bit chewy ..... I favour Burgen Bread - in fact wish I'd found it before!

    Christmas

This is sooooooo spooky. I to fall into a semi coma after Christmas dinner ..... however I confess it is probably not down to carbs ..... maybe something else I ate (or more than likely) drank! - hic!

    Christmas

I recall a post sometime ago from a lady who was T1, who likened her management of D - to cleaning teeth, which still resonates with me. If you maintain a good regime of cleaning your teeth, twice a day, 2 minutes etc etc, you are extremely likely to maintain good dental health and should not...

Type 2 Have you reversed your T2?

Nope @hooha ...... The green and pleasant land that is North Derbyshire! Doing exactly the same again this evening, but no G&T this time ..... A nice glass of Merot instead,

Type 2 Have you reversed your T2?

One of my 'healthy swaps' was that me and the wife now 'snack on Cucumber and Carrot Batons ... but with hummus (which is chickpea based), of all differing flavours - much better than crisps! ... and sooooooo tasty! I am sure there are those that will scream that hummus and Carrots are voodoo...

Newly diagnosed but confused by the diabetic nurse

When I started this journey I was 18st, and wouldn't have been seen dead in Cycling gear! I would have looked like a Walrus or Grey Seal! A year on, and at 12.5 st, I'm now most definitely, (as my son calls me), a 'MAMIL' ...... a Middle Aged Man In Lycra! ..... who says men over 50 shouldn't...

Type 2 Have you reversed your T2?

its a recipe! Take (some) of the advice given by HCP, mix it in with (some) of the advice given in here. Leave to settle whilst you think what is best for you .... and then do it! I am officially 'in remission' after only12 months. In a nutshell .... loose weight, eat healthily, and do...

Newly diagnosed but confused by the diabetic nurse

Yes there is ..... Accu check mobile. Single monitor, internal cassette, with a finger pricked attached to the machine. No separate strips or lancets etc. Not as cheap as some of the others, but definately more convenient.

Newly diagnosed but confused by the diabetic nurse

I think it harsh to describe the NHS as 'cheapskates'. I'm sure it hasn't escaped everyone's attention that the NHS is under severe pressure and needs to put its resources where the NEED is most, which means hard decisions are having to be made. The principle of 'free at the point of need' I...

Is it possible to reverse diabetes?

Well done you on the weight loss and exercise .... it feels fab when you can doesn't it??? I always used to have a banana before vigorous exercise (and sometimes still do), however even when I don't now, I don't feel like the 'tank is empty' after a hard session. Physiologicallly as I...

    Type 1 Help?

My mum and Bruv have Glaucoma, thankfully at least that had passed me by (so far). So whilst they (we) get enhanced eye tests you don't get any help with glasses etc ... unless entitled through benefits system etc.

    Sweet potato fries

Funny old thing, I too had Sweet Pot Fries (Frozen from Tesco) for my evening meal, along with a 'chilli cheese bomb' (quarter pounder with chilli cheese in the middle - but no bun from our local butcher) and loads of salad. 5.3 before ...... 5.4 afterwards. I have had these before, and to be...
