I miss my potato chips so much
I have just bought a mini deep fat frier and just made my first deep fried sweet pot chips they were delicious
I haven't tested yet
Any guesses what my bg will be ?
Prize for the winner will be fame on this site

With more carbs than regular potatoes ... hmmm .. probably not so great but let's see.. what were you before?

Sweet pots gave me about a 4.5 spike for a pretty small portion the last time I tested them . They didnt spike me so much early on in my diabetic journey but I wouldnt consider eating them now

sweet potato is 20g carb per 100 gram -- fried will probably make it 26 cho per 100g
you've done well with a 2.8mmol post prandial spike
a check before bobo to make sure you are back in range would be a good idea too........

Try making swede chips. I make them in the oven, they are good but don't get crispy enough, a deep fat fryer might be just what they need.

Funny old thing, I too had Sweet Pot Fries (Frozen from Tesco) for my evening meal, along with a 'chilli cheese bomb' (quarter pounder with chilli cheese in the middle - but no bun from our local butcher) and loads of salad. 5.3 before ...... 5.4 afterwards.

I have had these before, and to be honest I quite like them in preference to normal chips..... Even more so as a nice treat now I know there is little effect.

For what it's worth @barriebanana I do like chips when I'm having steak and I've always thought lightly parboiled sweet potato sticks, drained then fried in butter, are a safer bet than good old chips. I make sure to have a least a couple of glasses of wine as prophylactic, though! ;)

The glycemic index of sweet potatoes is a little lower than normal potatoes. In both cases, the GI does up if they are baked until they are very soft. Sweet potatoes also have more fiber so feed our bugs better. Given the choice, I will go for fried slices of sweet potatoes but limited to a few times a month at most.

I had sweet potatoes chip on Sunday, my BG was 5.5 about 2:30 later, these days my BG is 5 or under 2hr after most meals.

(I just don't miss normal potatoes.)

I do miss normal potatoes

Had sweet potato fries with steak tonight, tested 3 hours after the meal and was at 9.3!!!

Just researched the carbs in SP Vs ordinary potato and the SP has more, only it's released slower, so thinking the effect hits later. I'm back down to 6.1 at 4 hours after the meal....

A learning process Indeed.

And a lot of the ready made sweet potato fries come covered with a fine batter or dusted with flour, both of which add to the carbs. Always read the label!
