    Help..insurance?

Hi, if you don't insure your pump and you lose it or break it you will be liable for the cost to replace it. I had my accu-Chek combo insured on my home contents insurance for £3000 - never had to claim though! My DN also had to provide the PCT with a copy if my ins before they would find the...

Should I tell my new boss?

Hi, this is a very timely topic! I started a new job 4 months ago, I told my new boss on day one and then told my team, individually in the following week. A few people had some questions and/or experience but i emphasised that I was well Controlled and I was telling them for safety reasons...

    Infusion set sites

Do any fellow pump users have issues with using arms or lower back as an infusion set site? I seem to struggle with insulin absorption unless I use my tummy - any suggestions please? Thanks :-) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Omnipod

Hi all, apologies if this has already been covered 100 times but I am currently wearing a test Omnipod as I am due an upgrade in January. I've had the Accu chek combo for 4 years and have loved it but the Omnipod does seem very handy (although I keep panicking about knocking it off as I am...

    Pump infusion sites

Similar thing happened to me, no insertion issues (although I did fumble to pull the pin out with one hand!) but 1-2 and 3 hour checks showed a steady climb. After 5 hours and 2 corrections I took it out! Then approx 4 hours later I went low. I think the insulin was going in and I must have over...

    Pump infusion sites

I've ready that you need to adjust your pump timings to release the insulin ahead of when you would program the pump to release if your set were in your stomach (for example) to allow for the slower absorb rate? But don't quote me! Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Pump infusion sites

Hi fellow pumpers, I have a question. Do any if you insert your infusion set into the back of your arm? I can see from the wonderful World Wide Web that the back of the arm is a 'valid' location to wear an infusion set but as it is the least 'productive' area for insulin absorption I was...

New friend said I was always playing the Victim!

it's a tricky business with friends and family! Usually, with family you can educate them and as they tend to be closest to you they have seen the highs and the lows and that helps them understand. My step-son is at medical school training to be a Doctor and we had 'words' recently because he...

    Diabetic ID

Hi, I used http://www.medicaltags.co.uk/heart-id-necklace.html as I wanted a delicate, dainty one! I ahve the 'Tiffany' inspired heart which is lovely, silver (not plated!) and lightweight. I guess it depends on what klind of jewellery you usually wear but I love mine and would probably wear it...

Who has a CGM full time?

Hi Kat, I asked my DSN at one of my regular appts last year - I had to go on a waiting list and I know I am lucky as my DSN team are very supportive (Not all are according to what I read on here!). but try asking and see how you get on :-)

Who has a CGM full time?

I've received an email back from the manufacturer who said they are getting ready to launch a new one so might wait and see how whizzy that one is! Defo worth the expense in my opinion (obviously I would prefer it if it were funded but I feel pretty lucky to have my pump funded so I can't...

Who has a CGM full time?

Thanks Karla0304, so which Medtronic pump do you use? Forgive me, I am not too familiar with pumps which aren't Accu Chek!

Who has a CGM full time?

it's the freestyle navigator. It takes a reading every 5 mins and runs approx 20 mins behind 'real time' but yes, it alerts with an alarm if BG drops too low or high and also alarms if it predicts BG will drop too low/high. Lots of alarms! but you can program it to suit your own needs in terms...

    DAFNE and time off work

wow, wouldn't that be super cool if they linked to our Iphones!! fingers crossed for that day :-) I use the Accu chek Combo at the moment but am considering the Omnipod for my next one which is due in July. I have the Freestyle Navigator CGM fitted at the moment (only for 6 days though!) and I'm...

    DAFNE and time off work

My advice would be to grin, bear it and get the pump! I've had mine for 3 years now and it is life changing for someone with Type 1 diabetes. I know the work politics suck but the pump will make it all seem worth while :-) How exciting! which one do you want to get?!
