    Best day so far.....

Well done Kieth :D :D Isn't it amazing how much of a lift you get! I too had a really good day yesterday (I'm at the start of my learning curve) Fasting reading 7.6 (better than normal for me), Muesli breakfast and gym so no two hour reading in morning.Wholemeal roll, 2 sl roast beef...

    Omega 3

Nigel, Thanks for this. I had a good read through though I did already know most of the general stuff. The more detailed information in the "Inherited Heart Conditions - Familial Hypercholesterolaemia" section is very good. Not likely to change my view until after weight loss/diet reduction...

    Omega 3

From the same SIGN 116 document "In patients with type 2 diabetes, a systematic review of short term supplementation with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) showed a reduction in triglycerides (TG) but a rise in low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. Dietary supplementation with...

    Omega 3

Just been looking through the Sign 116 (which is the equivelant of Nice for Scotland, I think) and came across this (in my mind disturbing) recommendation to doctors "Lipid-lowering drug therapy with simvastatin 40 mg or atorvastatin 10 mg is recommended for primary prevention in patients with...

    Omega 3

re Statins, This started long before I was disgnosed type 2. Way back in 1998, I had a cholesterol reading of 9.6 and was prescribed my first lot of stains. Things seemed ok at first and they certainly brought the cholesterol reading down. I then started getting severe and debilitating...

    Not Happy!

Hi, I was diagnosed purely on the basis of two fasting readings over 7 and was told this was standard practice in Scotland. Only after that did I get an HbA1c.

Exact timing of two hour reading please

Hi again, Sorry if this is a question that has been answered over and over again (but I've been through all the stickies and couldn't find it)...... If I start my meal at 6pm and it takes half an hour including a coffee, at what time should I be doing my "2 hour" reading? The reason this...

    Omega 3

Hi, I'm newly diagnosed T2 and have just been through all the initial meetings. The dietician recommended I go onto a 1000mg Omega 3 capsule and I've done so. Too early to tell if it will help either T2 or Cholesterol but unlikely to do any harm INHO.

    bgs readings

Excellent. I'm at the start of my journey but have lost at least a stone already and gradually getting to understand the effects of carbs on my BG.

Newby confused by target BG levels

You could be right. On one or the other. I was distracted as I was rushing to go out and again as I'd just come in, so I possibly didn't wash my hands one or both times. Will be more careful going forward! Thnaks.

    bgs readings

Congratulations. You've done exactly what I aspire to do and been "rewarded" with an excellent results. This gives me hope that I can get there two by dumping the weight, controlling the BG levels and getting fitter. Not saying it will be easy for me but it's definitely the route I'm taking...

Newby confused by target BG levels

Sorry but the above prompts more questions about the "2 hour reading" which I'm sure others at my stage will have asked (feel free to direct me elsewhere to read up if appropriate). - If I sart my meal at 6pm and it takes half an hour including a coffee, at what time should I be doing my "2...

Newby confused by target BG levels

Another day, another surprising result (for me as a newby at least). So I had a pretty good (controlled) dinner tonight. I didn't take areading immediately beforehand but I had a fasting 6.8 this morning, which is on the good side for me, and a very controlled day (no bread at lunch for...

Newby confused by target BG levels

Thanks for all your responses. I have put my HbA1c appointment back by two weeks. This will at least give an 8 week picture rather than a 6 week picture.(I didn't think I could push it out much further without falling out with the doctor.) I continue to take multiple BG readings and have now...

Newby confused by target BG levels

Hi, As you may see from my signature line, I'm new to all this and trying to control by diet and excise alone for now. (I've posted in the new arrivals section.) I have started testing with a BG meter. I'm confused about the "target" "2 hour" level that I'm aiming for: - The NHS booklet I was...

New joiner, new type 2, introduction

Hi, I've had a god look round the forum now. The responders seem to be doing an excellent job of answering peoples questions regardless of which part of the forum they post them. This can't be easy. I'm aware that I've asked a few implied questions above - should I move them to the questions...

hello all - newbie signing in

Hi Timbla, Just joined a couple of days ago myself so I may well know less than you at this point. All the signs are that you'll get a very high level of information and support here. I have a great sceptism about doctors putting me on "controlling" or "preventative" drugs for the rest of my...

New joiner, new type 2, introduction

Hi again, Many thanks for the initial information. I've managed to read everything you've sent me to but I'll need to have more time to have a wider look round the forum. So far, the forum's key messages seem to be: 1. Get a meter, use it and try to understand how you react to various foods...
