Hi all. Thanks for your responses. Yes. I did get my meter. I started testing on 9/5. I do it sometimes twice daily post meals. Only did it once before a meal. Strangely, when I test anytime between 7:30a and 9:00p, I get a reading of 6.4 - 6.8. It doesn't matter what I've eaten or if I have...

I'm a little peeved. I asked my doctor to prescribe the meter, due to the help I'm receiving in this forum. She sends me an email to test my glucose once a week. No instructions on what I'm looking for, how I'm suppose to respond to readings, nothing. She gave me no instructions to cut carbs...

That makes me feel so much better Brunneria. I read online that 6.7 was bad. Yea! I know! Online, really! I will keep on doing what I'm doing and strive to become proficient in this art of glucose readings. Lol.

I finally mustered the courage to learn to use the glucose testing meter. 2 hours after eating pistachios and a protein drink consisting of spinach, avocados, cacao, protein powder, cinnamon, chia seeds and unsweetened coconut milk, my level was 121 mg/dl (6.71mmol). I was very disappointed. I...

@mehhh2015, my food has been quite boring as well. But I do love red kidneys. I will keep weighing and measuring everything. Hopefully, I can increase my healthy carbs. I am longing for an apple with my natural peanut butter occasionally in place of celery. That would be a big treat.

Thanks Hedonista. The celery with cream cheese sounds like a winner. Planning my shopping list. Thanks all.

I can do almond butter dip with celery. Completely forgot about that. I'll look for sugar free chocolate mousse. Didn't know I could do sugar free stuff. That sounds delicious.

Hi Rillium, I am picking up my meter tomorrow. Hopefully, that helps me. I have no weight to lose. But I'm not a big eater. I have trouble reaching 1000 cals. But my carbs are always high. I eat lots of red kidney beans and lots of collard greens which are high in carbs and lots of nuts...

Hi everyone. I am looking for a healthy satisfying snack. I do quite well at keeping my calories at 1000-1400 daily. My carbs are kept between 30-50, most often at 38. I eat no red meat and chicken maybe once weekly. I'm not a huge chicken fan. I eat salmon about 3-4 times weekly. This is my...

My dr told me I was pre diabetic about 18 months ago

I agree JenniferW. I'm also at risk after exercise most of my life and eating right to avoid it. I also completely lost my motivation for everything. Didn't know what else I could do. My doctor was no help. She was already planning my diabetes regimen. Don't know how I found this forum, but so...

    Some Improvement

I took chromium for decades to stop sugar cravings after being diagnosed with hypoglycemia. Stopped taking it about a year ago. Was diagnosed with prediabetes about 8 months later. So, chromium may have helped. Can't hurt. I am back on it.

Rillum, i think my problem was that I wanted to keep my carbs at 30-40g. So that meant 10% of my calories. However, I didn't know how much protein and fat I needed. So I had my fat set too low. I now have it set pretty close to what Atkins says I need. I felt great today. So, by golly, I think I...

BTW. I am now using the Atkins tracker to track my carbs, fat & protein. You are right Rillum, I was also not consuming enough protein. I've been using the My Fitness Pal free app which wouldn't allow me to adjust my fat and carb intake to coordinate with my daily calories. Also, it doesn't...

Thank you all for the helpful advice and information. I can not begin to tell you how helpful you are and how you've made this journey I'm on a little less frightening. Per your advice, I sent a list of questions to my doctor. She is now ordering me a glucometer. @gotsomeold, I don't know which...

I've discarded the drink. It has 6g of added sugar. I don't really feel bad after drinking it, but think I'm better focusing on protein and more healthy fats. When I was on Atkins I ate a lot of red meat and never felt bad. Now I feel so bad I can't get to my exercise, and I never miss...

@nosher8355, what Greek yogurt do you eat. I am in the U.S. I have yet to find one I like because I have to stay clear of added fruit.

    New - Type 2

Hi, I am a pre-diabetic newbie and traveling through the forum collecting as much info as I can. I also went on a low carb diet with 1000 - 1400 cals daily. I am suffering with 'muddle head' as well. Someone in pre-diabetic forum also suggested that I may not be getting enough fat and sodium. I...
