Mirena coil & blood sugars/insulin requirements

Thanks for the reply. My total daily requirements have massively increased too (from ~35-42u/day to ~50u/day), but things have stabilised now (I've found the basal rates and IC ratios that I need to keep my BG in range). I'm hoping that now I'm vaguely sorted, my settings will sort of all stay...

Mirena coil & blood sugars/insulin requirements

Hi! Thanks for replying. So, do you still find your blood sugar fluctuates throughout the month (as in the same as before you had the Mirena), or is it just constantly higher than it used to be? Thanks again!

Mirena coil & blood sugars/insulin requirements

Thanks for your reply! Yeah, I assumed this was the case (despite my GP telling me "it'll have no affect on your diabetes". They really do know nothing), but just wondering about the amount of change to expect/whether it's permanent...? Any idea?

Mirena coil & blood sugars/insulin requirements

Hello, Just wondering if anyone could help me... I had the Mirena coil (progesterone coil, not copper) put in 3.5 weeks ago, and I'm really starting to notice my blood sugars going up/needing more insulin (over the past 1.5 weeks). I'm not sure if this is just coincidence, or whether it's...

    advice on hospitals

I concur. The Adult Team at Addenbrookes in Cambridge is great (I'm still under their care there despite not having lived anywhere near Cambridge for the last 12 years!). I was also under the Paediatric dept there until age 18. I was very disengaged so don't really feel I can specifically...

So ill/ frustrated/ don't know what to do

Hello. Sorry to butt in here, but just read your post... you REALLY need to be checked for Addison's disease ASAP if you haven't already been tested. This isn't a "standard" test that your GP would do, but your symptoms are highly suggestive of this...have a Google and see what you think...

Type 1 diabetes and coeliac symptoms

Thanks. But that is just someone's unsubstantiated opinion. None of the claims are referenced to a published study in a peer-reviewed journal. The only thing actually referenced is the fact that T1D and coeliac disease are linked (in fact, it doesn't even say T1D; it just says diabetes, but the...

Type 1 diabetes and coeliac symptoms

Just realised some of that doesn't make sense! What I was trying to say was that you set the basal rate per hour as you want it, and unless you want to change anything about it, it just gives it to you automatically as you've set it to do, without you having to tell it to. With a bolus, you have...

Type 1 diabetes and coeliac symptoms

There's two ways to get insulin on the pump - you have a basal rate which just goes in automatically a set amount per hour (unless you tell it to do otherwise). You change change the amount each hour and so I think most people have certain blocks of the day with more/less per hour (e.g. I have...

Type 1 diabetes and coeliac symptoms

Oh god, what a nightmare. That sounds like the sort of amounts I was taking when I had the same problem. The doctors are lying to you about the pump! I have much more freedom with it. I really don't know what I'd do without it. What makes them think you'd have less freedom? I think it could well...

Type 1 diabetes and coeliac symptoms

Glad your thyroid is working OK. I would seriously talk to your GP about ruling out IBD. Eeeek, now there's a question re. resoling high BGs! The amount of stress in my life reduced (finishing my degree). And I also started waking at 3-4am to have a bolus. That helped a bit. But the REAL thing...

Type 1 diabetes and coeliac symptoms

I have Type 1 (since 1997) and coeliac disease (since 2014). I probably had it for 6 years or so before being diagnosed. I think the key thing to remember is that symptoms are quite variable. Like you, I had low folate pre-diagnosis. But I also had low ferritin. Horrendous feeling of fullness...

"Gluten and dairy blocks insulin receptors"? I'd love to see the evidence for this. Do you have any, Kristin?

    Lipoatrophy

Thank you! Have started using further round my sides and top of bum; I might try my legs, but can't use them on my arms as I don't want anyone to see them, but thanks for your reply anyway.. I thought Novorapid and Humalog were the same too - but if the last 18h are anything to go by (several...

    Lipoatrophy

So... I have this (where my fat has literally just disappeared overnight) on 2 places on my abdomen, and one on each flank. I haven't injected on my abdomen since August 2015, but one of the areas there has recently and very suddenly got worse - I cannot understand this, since no insulin...

    How to bolus for protein

Good morning, Just wondered if someone could tell me how to bolus for protein if eating a no carb meal? Protein definitely sends (and keeps) me up if I don't bolus for it, but I don't know how to work out what bolus amount I would need in these instances? Background info: on a pump, low carb...
