Why the opposition to low carb?

Welcome to the forum, Jennifer. I'm glad to see you are still making a living, despite the evil efforts of the DAA. I've looked at your references & am horrified at your treatment. I started low carbing 9 years ago, on the advice of a type 1, Fergus on this forum. The incentive was a...

Why the opposition to low carb?

You'll get a Government reply written by Diabetes UK, endorsing their advice & the NHS "Eatwell guide."

    People wont listen - rant

MUCH WORSE - Diabetes uk pretend to allow LCLF (not LCHF) as an option, but in my extended correspondence with them refuse to offer low carb advice in any of their literature.

    Contour next strip issues

A year or two ago I had some dud Contour strips - the meter rejected them. I phoned & they checked the batch number & they said a batch had been wrongly labelled. The chemist I got them from replaced them foc.

    Does your specialist have diabetes?

The point of the discussion is the treatment of chronic conditions that we have to learn to live with & control rather than acute & specific conditions that can be treated with medication or surgery. Diabetes is a chronic condition which normally cannot be cured by a consultant's skill...

    Does your specialist have diabetes?

Valid - BUT - We are being treated by health professionals with only outdated text-book knowledge of diabetes T2. Many will have T1, & therefore will have a personal interest. T2 can be treated with simplistic advice & booklets issued by Diabetes uk with the dubious knowledge that diabetes is...

    Does your specialist have diabetes?

I've made the point implied by the OP & found doctors agreeing with me - doctors in general have no personal experience with type 2 because they are young when they do their training, They just give the advice & booklets developed & printed by Diabetes uk - & they are decades out of date.

    Type 2 Peripheral Neuropathy?

The complications develop slowly, & the guidelines for BG readings can be inadequate - particularly the 2 hour after meals. Try one hour after meals & you are likely to see a reading in the teens. I was diagnosed when I reported a numbness in one leg which gave the impression that the leg...

    Diabetic experts recommend not testing??

HE should be able to tell you why you test, and when to test. Do you drive - & test before you set out and at hourly intervals while driving? Is hourly frequent enough - only you know how your BG is affected. Do you carry emergency sugar? How long have you been on insulin? And how long T2? On...

    Diabetic experts recommend not testing??

Well spotted ! In correspondence with Diabetes UK I did ask if there was a T2 on the staff. Presumably not. A T1 responded: He did NOT respond to my challenge: IMO that refusal is disgusting - he has the experience that gives him satisfactory control, but refuses to share it with other T1s...

    Balance magazine - November/December

Their reply to my above comment - the last word in the exchange: Notice that whatever diet they "approve" a key factor is always LOW FAT. So there is no way a low carb diet can provide adequate energy. Likewise a low calorie diet is unsustainable. They don't join the dots. The claim that...

    Type 1 Diabetes Numbness

I'm type 2 - but numbness was why I went to the Dr & was diagnosed. The sensation continued & worsened until I cut out carbs - about 8 years after diagnosis. With the recommended complex carb diet, I was getting BGs well above 200 Now on a reduced carb diet, plenty of veg, natural fats as they...

    Balance magazine - November/December

My correspondence with DUK included many hours - days - of study of references & net information, including cross examination of DUK's "position statements." Plus they felt guilty when what purported to be a letter to me was an exact copy of an email sent nearly a year before. For instance:

    Almond flour

Ground almonds - I use it in various recipes, starting the day with a "porridge" without oats - just a combination of ground almonds, desiccated coconut, milled flax seed cooked in the usual way. Doesn't spike my blood sugar, & is much more sustaining than oat porridge. I make a cake...

    Balance magazine - November/December

Continued - I consider that the presentation is offensive, especially bearing in mind I had previously written to Balance & had an exchange with senior DUK staff who told me they were reviewing their diet advice. This appeared to be the result of their review !!!

Low Carb Doctor Silenced ! Gary Fettke Becomes Australia's Tim Noakes

I find all this both difficult to believe & not surprising. Diabetes UK are fighting a rearguard action against us - the maintain that "evidence" supports their stance. While ignoring the recent evidence, the experience of tens of thousands of diabetics, and examination of the citations they...

    Balance magazine - November/December

I'm not a lawyer, but a retired professional scientist who can understand & critique their references, and I am used to preparing reports for others. Also I am a Gospel preacher (now occasional) so analysis of texts & presentation of arguments goes with the position. I did challenge them of...

    Balance magazine - November/December

I've had correspondence with two of their senior men over several months. They claim to support low carb, but insist that fat should also be low. They didn't respond to the need for energy from either carb or fat, so their reduced carb cannot be sustained. I did refer to several RCTs & reviews...

    Balance magazine - November/December

My reply to the Balance reply to my letter was: Thanks for your prompt reply to my letter to Balance. I'm sure you have also seen the recent BBC programmes which addressed the problems - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b07xwstx/fat-v-carbs-with-jamie-owen which was basically a very...
