Do any of you attend a group?

The only advantage to weight watchers and slimmers world, is to them as you are lining their pockets. Your current Hba1c tells you how bad they are. DON'T count calories, count carbs. Try low carb, cut out all the Bread, Pasta, Rice, Potatoes, Pastry and most fruit, berries are ok in smaller...

    Rising HBA1C

If you have 1lb loaf tins you can always split it into 2 loaves. It freezes well, so you can also slice it and freeze with grease proof paper between slices. You can toast it straight from the freezer if necessary. I prefer my toast with a thick layer of butter and loads of Marmite. Or miss the...

    While I'm waiting...

Theoretically if you had been on any medication which could raise your levels, or carrying an infection for a large part of the 3 months previous to your Hba1c, then it could be possible that the results are skewed slightly. However even if this had by some very slim chance have happened, then...

    Rising HBA1C

Your line "it seems me and carbs cannot be friends" is hitting the nail right on the head. Rather than think bread etc, think what it's made of FLOUR. That is the problem really. Provided you are not Gluten intolerant, the bread i make is very good, even the rest of the family like it, although...

Difficulties eating and loss of appetite

Hi Sally, ironically most of our health problems boil down to the fact we DON'T eat for survival, but pleasure. When cooking a meal instead of having something different to the others, have more of the stuff you can safely eat, and dodge the c&*^. When family and friends cook without thinking, i...

    Prediabetes Hba1c 5.8%

Hi Saky. ALL the figures you quoted above fall within the accepted variations allowed for meter accuracy. Theoretically the actual precise levels could have been identical. When you are stressing over nothing, your Insulin levels drop, Adrenaline levels rise, and the liver dumps some Glucose...

    Hba1c score of 41 confused

If you've had a diabetic review i assume you are a diagnosed diabetic who has reduced their Hba1c. If so you will not be prediabetic, but diabetic with an Hba1c just outside of prediabetic. But still diabetic.

Help needed again today my blood sugar 2.8! I got scared

What blood pressure medications are you on, i recently started Rampiril and that says in the bumph that it has an affect on lowering blood sugars, not dramatically but if you are hungry and need to eat ie low blood sugars just like normal people, it could be the difference.

    Type 3 / Type 3C

Ironically everyone thinks we move about less now, but it's actually the reverse. We are far more active than our ancestors were. The problem with cooking oils etc, are they are NOT natural. The only one that is, is olive oil, which is pressed. It proves the point about processed foods, they...

    Type 3 / Type 3C

Years ago people ate a lot more carbohydrates than nowadays, the difference is for want of a better expression, they were pure, ie not mucked around with. Flour used to be milled on stones, rather than more modern steel rollers, which produce a much finer flour that is more easily digested...

How many carbs are you consuming?

If you order enough strips, they throw the starter kit in for free. I paid £30 and a few pennies for the kit and 250 strips. Decided i'd treat myself to a new one, as i'd been using my mother in laws old glucomen areo.

    Feet pain

Rather than thinking low carb especially, the important thing that will help is reducing your blood sugar levels. It's the levels too high that wreak havoc with the nerves.

    Feet pain

Pre diagnosis i had excruciating burning feet at night, the duvet was agony and i had to hang my feet out of bed. They were incredibly sensitive, and still are. My other symptom was numb thighs occasionally. All the pain and numbness went very shortly after dropping carbs dramatically. my feet...

    Been diagnosed with type 2

Hi Kim, with an Hba1c of 49 you just squeaked into the full diabetic range. At that number i would expect a fairly modest reduction in Carbs will do the trick for you. Try and avoid as much as possible, Potatoes, bread (Any Colour), Pasta (again any colour), rice (Guess the colour), especially...

Is calf/ankle cramps normal when switching to low carb ?

The peeing early on in very low carb diets is the body shedding excess water which is retained to deal with carbs. This is why generally you have a short burst of rapid weight loss. Unfortunately with the pee goes elecrolytes as @HSSS says. When i did strict Keto a few years ago i suffered...

HbA1c gone up - so confused

And very little bread says to me still too much carbs, if you ate more carbs over christmas, your insulin resistance probably got worse. A good spell at much lower carbs should help to reverse most of that. A reduction in carbs ONLY reduces sugar levels. Carbs are the source of the sugar.

    Eating out nightmare

Most places i've found will substitute items, but some are just plain A£$%^&*s and won't budge. I have happily sat there and just had a black coffee before, whilst everyone else had £30+ meals. My father in law used to say well at least have the cheese platter. I would refuse from sheer bloody...
