Type 2 Difficulty Managing Blood Glucose

Hi. Something is badly wrong if you need to take a lot of carbs because too much insulin has made your BS low. Yes, an occasional correction dose but not a lot. Are you keeping your daily carbs down to around 150gm or less total? Tresiba can be worse than Levemir as you can't tweak it so easily...

    Libre fitted tomorrow

Mine stick like glue so no problem but I do use the alcoholic wipe and shave in that area. Fine in the shower. I don't need to cover the sensor

    Type 2 DB on Insulin

Hi Probably worth saying that a proportion of slim people diagnosed as 'T2' are wrongly diagnosed as they may be late onset T1 (aka LADA). In this case the pancreas will be underproducing insulin rather than over-producing. If you are T2 with excess weight the fat build-up can prevent the body...

    NEWLY DIAGNOSED

My advice would be to avoid slimming clubs as they don't understand the problem with carbs in the diet. Just set yourself a daily carb limit of perhaps 150gm/day and see how you go. Don't worry about fats or proteins.

Weight has gone back up and I'm hungry all the time.

Hi. You must reduce the carbs. Having insulin and Victoza is a slightly weird combination. One you get the weight down you should be able to reduce or stop the Victoza and possibly even the insulin as well.

I'd love to know how reducing Salt helps diabetes.

    Newly Diagnosed Type 2

Hi. Carbs need to be kept down but some are OK. 150gm/day is a good start target. Drink is OK in moderation. beer has a lot of carbs but wine and spirits aren't too bad. You may be started on the drug Metformin which many of us use. It's very safe but isn't a miracle cure so diet is the key.

For most people the Slow Release version of Metformin gives no problems at all; perhaps a short-term taste problem.

Type 1 Newly Diagnosed.. Help needed!

Hi. Some surgeries manage T1s. I'm on Basal/Bolus and my super DN manages me. You need shortly to be told how to do carb-counting for your Bolus dose. This is relatively easy but the NHS sometimes takes too long to give advice on this. Ask whoever you find to look after you. My surgery DN...

Are others having their regular review cancelled?

I've had my review with the DN and my retinopathy at the hospital. I always trigger my DN review; never wait for the surgery to contact you. The shortage of blood tubes may still be an issue but I thought that had been fixed now? I called the hospital ref my retinopathy and I said it was overdue...

8 years of insulin but not diabetic!!! Wrong diagnosis

Wow, you appear to have been both mis-diagnosed and not properly monitored as an insulin user. Your GP probably has some answers to give.

Hi. Your nurse was right. The HBA1C test measures your blood sugar during the last 3 months weighted to more recent dates. You do need to leave a gap of several weeks to see any change in the HBA1C perhaps from low-carbing. The test is known to be fairly accurate so doing it again too soon will...

    Help

Hi. You say perhaps you are not eating enough? The converse might be true. Yes keep the carbs down. I suspect your team which will include cardios may advise against having fats. You will need to be guided by them but use your judgement and broader knowledge as well. My wife has just had a...

    Newcastle Diet is Low Carb

So it appears that to achieve a low level of 800 Calories, you get Low-Carb 'for free' along with it. I suspect it's the low-carb aspect that provides the weight loss and not the low-fat aspect as we know that carbs are the main cause of weight gain rather than fats. I just wish people...

    Type 2 new diagnosis: confused??

Hi and welcome. Don't forget it's not just sugar that needs to be kept down as sugar is just another carb so watch all your carbs. Do get yourself added to your surgeries online system so you can access your test results. You can then see what all your test results are and whether your HBa1C...

    Any advice please

Hi. First you should not be on twice-a-day insulin as a T1 but Basal/Bolus. See NICE diabetes guidelines for T1. Talk to your GP about changing the insulin regime to be inline with NICE as it will give you better control. Why are you using test strips as well as the Libre 2? It's your choice but...

    Seeking Medication Advice

Hi. At your next blood test ask for a full lips breakdown. I would suggest stopping the statins a for a day or so before so you get a result without meds which will help decide about the statins; otherwise you can't make a decision. Do get yourself access to the surgeries online system at the...

    Worried

Hi. It's not easy getting a C-Peptide and Gad test done privately. Medichecks used to do them but not any longer. My local Spire is now offering C-Peptide tests with a Dr consulting. You could insist on getting your GP to refer you to the Diabetes Clinic which my DN willingly did but the clinic...
