What Do You Do For Fun?

@Jaylee She does both, but I have more issues with lows than highs. I can't feel that I've dropped until I'm about to have a seizure. She starts with touching my hand or leg with her nose and becomes more like an alarm the longer I take to check my levels, I've been smacked by a paw for being...

What Do You Do For Fun?

@Jaylee Oh my goodness, too cute. To be fair, Artemis has been learning to wear a service vest since she was a couple months old, and it gets so hot here, she has learned to love her shoes--plus, they're bright blue so she gets more attention and likes to show off. At least we've learned she'll...

What Do You Do For Fun?

@Diakat Yeah, she's a bit of a ham about it. We just tell everyone she knows she's pretty and thinks she deserves worship like the goddess she was named after (Artemis).

What Do You Do For Fun?

@Diakat The only ones I have easy access to are as a bear and reindeer. We keep her costumes pretty simple so she's not uncomfortable. She loves the bear one, she brings it to me when she wants to wear it, likes to pose for people and doesn't like having to take it off.

What Do You Do For Fun?

@Diakat Yes I did, those were for my husband and I, we do a lot of dressing up, mainly Alice and the Mad Hatter or Mary Poppins and Bert. We dress up my service dog to match a lot, she was a waiter penguin for Mary Poppins, and was a black bear when I did a charity event as Merida from Brave...

What Do You Do For Fun?

Not so much now as I did as a kid, I have a bad allergy to the sun, as little as five minutes of exposure and I have second and three degree burns, so it takes a lot of effort and extra layers to go outside during the day (we jokingly call it vampire syndrome because I all, but burst in to...

Yeah, this has been the story of my life here, our hospitals will send you home in DKA if you don't have a fancy enough insurance and are too old to go to one of the children's hospitals...and then there's trying to afford insulin, many stressful years over that. We manage though, I've gotten a...

What Do You Do For Fun?

It tends to be more it keeps me calm while forced to be idle in a hospital and they cost only a dollar or so to make. Also...bringing in a dress to hand sew could be a bit much. I enjoy seeing the reactions to them though, I started taking them with me to the hospital when I was a teen and made...

What Do You Do For Fun?

Sorry for the delay, I stopped getting notifications about responses. My cats are too lazy to be expensive, but our turtle, and shepherd with her training as an alert dog can be. I've only been riding on a horse once, but they're beautiful and definitely a lot of work. I definitely take...

Wow, sorry for the delay, my phone stopped notifying me about activity here. He didn't diagnose himself, the ER did, but they only gave a generic "diabetes", not the type, no information, nothing. He has been in to see an Endocrinologist now, and has been working to see that it gets under...

Thank you very much, we are looking in to this option because none of us had any idea that was a thing. As well as my sister, who isn't a student, trying to get in to a job that offers health care decent enough to help both of them with their different conditions.

What Do You Do For Fun?

I like to sew. Bears, dolls, costumes, clothes, purses, teaching children how to--pretty much whatever projects I can get my hands on. I went from being a child terrified enough of needles I would flee an office if a shot was even mentioned (at least pre-diabetes, didn't have a whole lot of...

    Looking For Diabetic Buddies?

Aha, no worries. I went my first couple years without anyone actually diabetic, although my dad and closest friend both started eating the same way I did, which was pretty neat. It was a couple years later my grandpa was diagnosed with type two, and same with my youth pastor, I didn't meet him...

    Looking For Diabetic Buddies?

It is, it's nice to have a little community. My time in regular schools I was the only diabtetic they had so there were some issues with that. I'm on an insulin pump (have been off and on for 11 years), I'm actually on my first cgm too, which I've been trying to get on for some years.

    Looking For Diabetic Buddies?

Wow, that's interesting. It was nice to have someone who had been diagnosed at the same age as me. We tended just to share horror stories or our loathing of what a low blood sugar feels like. Yes, I've been on a pump off and on for twelve years.

Is that a thing?? My brother in law is in college, so I'll tell them to look that up. Thank you.

I can understand that, I'm used to conversing with others with vastly different time zones than myself. I am fairly familiar with type two, my grandfather had it, and when I was younger I was so limited on carbs we bonded through my knack for making low carb desserts during holiday feasts :) I...
