Taking things a step at a time

Welcome. Don’t Panic (Douglas Adams). Things will seem a bit daunting to start with, but if the rest of us can work it out you will easily be able to, it just takes time, a bit of limited experimentation and few mistakes and you will be on your way.

    FIASP - New user

I would give it more than just a week. If you are still having issues after 2 weeks contact a good diabetic nurse / educator. Look at changing insulin as having a new pancreatic transplant as that is effectively what has happened.

Type 1 What should I eat on a trip to India?

I ate anything I liked when I was in India last time. 8 weeks latter when I got back I was Diabetic. Most traditional Indian food is quite good (except sweets) The breads are not great, but better than most western breads. Be careful of the water, NO fresh washed food like salads. Use...

    What's your Achille's heel T1 & T2?

Dairy Bell Milkshake, I don’t do that anymore (I only had 2 a year) as the factory is now turning into a massive apartment block

    Newly diagnosed

Welcome to the club. From here on it's not as bad as you will be expecting. Yes a massive shock upfront then confusion, expect a little (or a lot) of depression, anger at why me etc. Just know it will pass and things will return to normal (whatever that is). In the type 1 forum we have all...

    Needle port problems

I have noticed blood has stained the adhesive holding the cannula in on a couple of occasions and it had been a fight to keep my BGL down. The only other issue was my fault in my haste one morning I forgot to remove the plastic protector covering the needle. Is there any scar tissue from your...

    Thank you

Well done. Carb counting is easy when at home, it turns into carb guessing when eating out, except at the 5 food groups McDonalds, KFC, Burger King/Hungry Jacks, Pizza Chain, Subway and you shouldn't eat there very often. Life will get easier and new normality will return.

Can’t work up the nerve to throw away an old pump

I have to hand my pump back. I find it crazy, I (or my health insurance) pays a small ransom for the pump, but I don't actually own it and I must return it and pay another slightly larger ransom to get a new pump.

    Advice on injecting in public

I have recently gone onto a pump so it no longer impacts me. After many personal horror experiences (although I live in Australia) I will only inject in a cubical if out and about. Most concerns are linked to illicit drug taking, but as few illicit drugs are injected, most are tablets...

    Medtronic 640g and sharps bin?

I put my Mio in the normal rubbish bin. I first de-venom them with a pair of pliers. I remove the sting and put that in the sharps bin. I chop the cannula plastic thing off deep in the clip thing and that goes in the sharp bin with the lancets and BGL strips the rest in the normal rubbish...

    How long until I’m healthy!

Like others have said WELCOME. There are some pretty big hitters that have welcomed you earlier on don't hesitate to ask anything and they will give you great advice. Things will be crazy and unpredictable for a while. I can promise you it does get much easier. In 12 months you will look...

    Medtronic 640g - 4 failed pumps

I'm on my second. This is to try and resolve enlite sensor to pump issues. I do know their enlite sensors / pump are very unreliable for me at least. I think they have dropped the ball on QA. The Medtronic help line has been great up until my call a few nights ago. The person I spoke to...

Medtronic 670g Being Released in Australia

I have the enlite with the 640g. The communication between the 2 is that unreliable I have disabled the smartguard function. In a normal week when I check my BGL on the pump it will be having a hissy fit at least 20% of the time. The worst is you cant switch off the alarm (mine is vibrate) so...

Medtronic 670g Being Released in Australia

I received an email inviting me to register. If it’s almost available in Australia, it won’t be far off in the UK.

    Burnout

@Engineer88 Find another GP. Just remember unlike nearly all of the health professionals they are hypocrites they tell you to do one thing, but don't do it themselves. Just remember you are not alone, there are plenty of us here doing it with you. I know we all have our own tailored...

Newly Diagnosed - So Much To Take In

Your body will be going through an enormous change returning back to normal. You body maybe reacting to the changes as I assume the changes to becoming diabetic were very slow as you are an adult and T2. However your return journey back is very fast and your body will take some time to adjust...

Do I wait till Diabetes take full force ? What's going on ?

If you are really convinced he has any precursor to disbetes, go to another endo. If the other endo says your son is fine leave it at that and let your son grow up without any constraints or worries. However I would wait until he showed 3 or more diabetic symptoms

    Job withdrawn

I would also get Drs letter. I volunteer as a safe worker on a historic tourist railway (Guard and Signalman) which is an operational role. I have to have a medical every year a copy of my pathology reports. The letter is a very specific wording for Australia anyway. If you can go armed with...

    Job withdrawn

I would definitely make a noise about this. Even if you have decided that you don't want to work for such a company, the next diabetic that turns up for a job they will then think twice about using that excuse. All railway positions that are of an operational nature are governed by a national...
