    Vitamin D, Covid 19 and type 1

I have been spending a lot of time looking at Vitamin D (and zinc) with regards to Covid and have even been corresponding with NICE on this. NICE still don't seem convinced, but given : the number of studies out there showing strong correlation between Vitamin D levels and Covid outcomes one...

    Libre Bluetooth add on

Also be aware that the Freestyle libre 2 is coming soon (and apparently for the same price), which I seems to have bluetooth connectivity. So buying an add-on at the moment probably would be bad-timing

    Free style Libre machine

Have you not got a smartphone? Any decent Android/apple phone can have the Freestyle app installed on it. There is also a separate glimp app that can read your blood sugar - as I am not sure whether you need to start the libre on the phone or not.

    Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)

There is also a somewhat longer article here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3376872/ If you are keeping your sugars under control, have a CGM , exercise well and are on a LCHF diet then you will probably be ok without this. For everyone else....

    Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)

How much and how often do you guys take B1. I am thinking that 2 lots of 100 mg per day (not to be taken with coffee). Note that people with Parkinson's have taken up to 4 grams(!) per day with only beneficial effects.

    Curcumin

    Salted Butter

I am not sure that everyone is equally affected by salt. If you have high blood pressure, then it might be reasonable to cut down. But too low a salt intake is associated with an increased heart attack risk. My take on this is that humans have been living around the salty sea for a long time and...

    Statins

I am not sure Statins are any good, and don't extend life. They may reduce your chance of a heart attack, but make up for it in other ways. They increase the chances of Parkinson's. If you want to increase your good cholesterol take spoonfuls of coconut oil in coffee.

    Siblings and Type1

According to one study I saw the lifetime chance of a sibling getting diabetes was around 6%. This seems a little low to me as most of the people I know who have T1 have a sibling who also has it. So for ( a somewhat unscientific poll) - do you have siblings and do they have t1 too. And if not...

BCG vaccine could cure type 1

Yes, well he wants some more money for his next level of research. I think I'll pass without some more compelling evidence.

BCG vaccine could cure type 1

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/06/170610134818.htm Too many coulds and mays really. But anyone want to give it a go. But then surely some here did get this vaccine originally?

    Glycene

Anyone use this? from: http://joshmitteldorf.scienceblog.com/2017/02/06/glycine-and-mitochondria/ 3. Health effects of glycine (animal studies) "Glycine is recognized as an “inhibitory” neurotransmitter, and promotes natural sleep. Used as a supplement, it has helped to promote recovery from...

Petition for Freestyle Libre on NHS

I have signed. I think the benefits outweigh the costs. And the increased cost is offset by the reduction of test strips. I have even bought one for a type 1 girl at work (as she can't afford it and I came into a bit of money recently).

    Type 1 Diabetic Prime Minister

Have already emailed her asking whether she is aware of the freestyle libre. Of course if she does start to use it she will wonder why it isn't on the NHS.....:)

    Freestyle Libre

    1. They become more accurate after the first couple of days but will never be quite as accurate as a finger prick. 2. They tend to exaggerate the high's and lows 3. You will get a much better idea of where your blood is trending and the history of it and so be able to prevent highs and lows

    Any thoughts

Firstly, you may have a dawn phenomenon going on. Secondly IMO Libre tends to exaggerate the highs and lows ( I think there is a bit of **** covering going on - what happens when you fingerprick?) You may need to increase your levermir slightly, but I would just tend to increase your rapid...

    Experience of libre

At the moment it costs £1250 a year. I would expect that might come down over time especially if they start to get some decent competition. And maybe one day Nice will recognise that it may actually be cost beneficial.

    Experience of libre

Got one for my son (13) who started using it last week. I think it is hugely beneficial (providing it is working)- as it is so much less hassle than finger prick all the time. It seems to exaggerate the highs and lows - which I think is some **** covering by the makers Abbot- but that is fine -...
