NHS to Offer Closed Loop Pumps to 150,000 T1 Diabetics

On the positive side - it is a great step forward - possibly not a solution for everyone 'yet' For those of us who struggle with the current regime - it might help (depending on training knowledge and the individuals appetite to make their life better) or it might not work, thats a case by case...

    freestyle 2 sensor

Its amazing - been using the Libre2 and bluetooth to phone and watch for years (the functions were implemented with the first L2, they just didn't put it in the app). You can read the data with xDrip+ (DIY App you have to install/sideload on your phone) and feed it to a watch and set alarms...

    How fast is Trurapi

Hi @jaywak - Trurapi is 'biosimilar' to Novorapid - so it 'should' have the same duration of insulin action (DIA) etc - but there is always the 'it might not' if your body disagrees with the insulin itself. From my knowledge and experience of Novorapid - in normal conditions it doesn't really...

    Time in Range

Libre 3 is very much like Libre 2 - so yes its CGM, but you can't scan it to get BG (a much reduced NFC aerial that's only used to start the sensor) A phone or bluetooth device is needed to read BG levels

    Time in Range

Sounds like you need a bit of help from a Diabetes Endocrinologist department at your local hospital - there should be a specialist group at your hospital who can advise to improve your healthcare. Ask your Nurse to refer you to them - it actually saves them money as it improves your health in...

    Time in Range

Hi @Roach70, Like you - this is my 50th year of Type 1 - I started off with Libre 1 a good while back (and then Libre 2) , and thought....wouldn't it be nice to see it on my phone / watch. So I looked at xDrip (pulls data from the Libre and displays it on my android phone and sends to my...

constantly tired and serious lack of energy

How is your BG across the day? Running high (or too low) for long periods in a day can make you feel exhausted. The HbA1c figure doesn't give the true picture, its more about how your BG is across the whole day (rather than an average)

Has anyone found a reliable strategy with beer?

Ok - MDI means 'multiple daily injections' - if you're pumping it opens up different strategies. You can pre-bolus for your meal to reduce the 'post prandial high' (high after eating) which means you'd start from a better place (remember Novorapid doesn't start working till at least 1 hour...

Has anyone found a reliable strategy with beer?

Beer is very fast carbs and hits quickly to BG - I tend to bolus about 12g per pint, then when the insulin kicks in you can often get a low afterwards. Just re-read read and you're MDI on Novorapid. So - strategy here is time and insulin. BG above 14 I found Novorapid to be less effective -...

    Libre 3 on prescription...

Just had a look - apologies you're spot on, there is a NFC aerial in the bottom edge used to start the sensor, but cannot then be used to read the BG data once the sensor has started - possibly its disabled after that point to save power.

    Libre 3 on prescription...

Just my view and a bit of research. Libre 2 and 3 are different in the following ways: 1. Size - 3 wins (about the size of 2 5p pieces stuck together - L2 is just bigger than a 2p piece and about 1.5 times as thick 2. NFC scanner - Libre 2 wins as 3 doesn't have an NFC aerial (hence smaller)...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Ta - Diagnosed in the 70s - so addicted to Cheese as the nurses tended to tell parents who said "If we can't give them sweets - what can we do?" - the answer often came back - "Give them cheese" :)

    Insulin pumps

Hi @Mrtom51 - lots of the pumps themselves can be controlled from a mobile phone app - so you could do that one handed. The fun bit might be filling with insulin - you still need to get a cartridge or reservoir in the pump (some are pre-filled, making it easier, some need to be filled by you...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

My loop is set to 6 - so its pretty much stable all night, usually a slight rise at 7:30 (to 7) due to disconnecting the loop for a shower at 7:00 or so, then it brings it back down to 6.

    Consultant appointment

Your consultant should have wider clinical knowledge and be able to recommend strategies to improve your balance and control, some are better than the DSNs, some not (all depends on the individuals) but all work as a team. The Consultant can also recommend and action new healthcare strategies...

    Fiasp

Fiasp is essentially NovoRapid with added nicotinamide/B3 Where Novorapid (was using this for 20+ years - the time flies) takes at least an hour to kick in (in normal situations) Fiasp can do it in 15-20 mins, so much easier to avoid the post-prandial (after eating) highs. Lyumjev is Humalog...

Libre Sensor 2 - PLEASE BE CAREFUL - Recent Issues

Occasionally they go wildly odd on readings, but mostly pretty reliable once calibrated in xDrip to give more accurate readings. Worth noting there is a period of 'insertion trauma' with new sensors, where sticking them in causes swelling around the sensor and stops it reading as accurate (true...

Essential info for choosing a pump

This is the list of gadgets currently on offer from the NHS approved list (this changes quite a bit over time). https://abcd.care/dtn/virtual-showroom I was told in March the Medtrum and Roche weren't available and the Dana-i might come on the list September 2022 by my pump renewal team at Derby.

    Medic alert

I used to, but having known a few nurses (non-diabetic specialists) from around the world (including the uk) they didn't recognise the medic-alert so stopped wearing one. Just my experience but I tend to think I'm strapped to Libre and a pump - I'm in with a good chance of being spotted (plus a...

Fully Closed Loop Artificial Pancreas? With the latest insulin this is within grasp...

More thank likely - your body become accustomed to running high (or low) if thats the norm for you. Slowly you will get used to lower (and healthier) BGs so you'll be ok at 5. I've been diabetic so long now I don't get good warning signs and can run (sometimes) to 2 or below and feel fine...
