    Weight gain when starting insulin

I spoke to my nurse twice this week and I'm going to see her on Tuesday. She's been really good and I email her all the time as well lol. She suggested reducing amount of insulin to reduce hypo risk and has also stopped my gliclazide. I'm worried about hypo's if I take insulin without carbs...

    Weight gain when starting insulin

I'm using humalog and lantus. I was eating almost carb free so although I'm eating carbs again I would still say I'm low carb and I aim for under 120gms per day when I can. I am worried about hypos if I take insulin without any carbs but I'm sure that fear will ease, I've only been on insulin...

    Weight gain when starting insulin

Thank you for the advice. My numbers were very high plus I've been eating more carbs than normal so I can get my insulin dose right.

    Weight gain when starting insulin

This is my first time posting about this. I'm fairly new to the forums. My weight loss had been fairly slow but it was coming off. Been on insulin a week and I've gained 6lbs! My nurse did say I may gain weight as my body will start absorbing glucose again but didn't expect this big a gain...

    Furious with my mum's doctors!

As others have said, fasting is not required for hba1c as it measures last glucose levels over a 3 month period. Would normally only do a fasting test when being diagnosed.

    Victosa & Lantus when LOW???

If you wake up with levels that low you should be having fast acting glucose to correct the hypo and having breakfast and your normal meds. Skipping meals and meds will have your levels all over the place. Would have a chat with your diabetic nurse if you can.

    Feeling awful....

The nausea definitely from the Victoza, would agree it's a unique feeling. Just started insulin yesterday, working on getting dose right just now.

    Lantus side effects

Thanks all. My nurse is going to call me on Monday morning to see how my levels have been on current doses over weekend. The dozy feeling passed after an hour or so. Might just be an initial reaction but I'll see how it goes.

    Feeling awful....

Hi Jeff. My sugars were also hitting the 20s. Started the insulin yesterday. Humalog during the day which had an almost instant effect. Lantus at night and I'm feeling very foggy this morning but hoping this will settle. Still on gliclazide and metformin along with insulin but hopefully these...

    Lantus side effects

i just started on insulin yesterday. I'm t2 and still on gliclazide and metformin as well. I took 3 doses of humalog during day and seen an almost instant effect on my sugar levels. Took 14 units of lantus at bedtime and this morning I feel so drugged up. Lightheaded and dizzy. Sugar levels are...

    Feeling awful....

Not seen my GP in a while and I'm in between consultants at the moment. Will mention it to consultant when I get seen though, hopefully shouldn't be too long a wait. I'll stop the victoza and the tablets when I start the insulin on Thursday. I've been type 2 for 10 years but only having...

    Feeling awful....

Thanks for the advice. I was at slimming world for years where carb is king for easy low fat meals. Definitely finding it a challenge.

I do like eggs, need to make more effort in the morning, have a wee omelette instead of porridge. Thank you

    Feeling awful....

I'm type 2 and currently taking victoza, metformin and gliclazide but I'm getting started on insulin next week. I had been lowering my carb intake but the last week the nausea from the victoza has been pretty bad so I was eating porridge and bread as I've found I don't get as nauseous with plain...

    metformin. can't do it anymore

Oh that's awful. You don't have to put up with it though, definately speak to your diabetic team. Thankfully I didn't have this side effect but I was very sick with it but they swapped me to slow release version which is much better on your tummy. Gliclaside might also be an option but it's got...

    starting Victoza injections

Had my first, and so far only bout of sickness on Friday. I had been feeling very nauseous on the Thursday but not actually sick. On Friday I decided to stick to bread and corn flakes as I've been feeling ok after eating these. Most to the day on Friday I felt good, went to bed and just woke...

    starting Victoza injections

This is my second day on the Victoza, so far all ok. I've started on 0.6 so no major changes to levels yet but as I've had no side effects I should be able to increase my dose next week and hopefully see a change then. The diabetic specialist nurse has been fab, I had pen, needles and clips a...

    starting Victoza injections

Thanks both. My dad was on Victoza but couldn't tolerate it and was swapped to Byetta before being put on insulin. It seems to be one of those drugs you either tolerate or you don't. I've got my appt with the nurse to show me how to inject on 31st May so I guess I'll find out soon enough!

    starting Victoza injections

I've just been told today I've to start on Victoza. I'm type 2 and up until last summer I've had my diabetes well under control, even managing to come off my tablets for two years after losing 3 stone. My sugars started creeping up again though and I was put back on metformin 2 years ago...
