Anybody out there have atrial fibrillation as well as T1D??

Don't know anything about AF but if having surgery I would research and find the best person for the job, even if that means having to travel across the country for surgery. It can make a real difference going to a surgeon who specialises in this op and has consistent results. Hope all goes...

    Depression

Try and get on a DAFNE course and take control back! It also helps to be with others who are going through same **** as yourself, it did for me as hadn't really spoke to another t1 in depth before. Know we are all fighting this on here with you and I have been where you are now on a few...

Diabetic for 37 yrs & new to carb counting

No disrespect to dietitians but I would not trust their word on insulin ratios! Think you should ask to go on a DAFNE course where they will help set your ratios and you will get sound advice on carb counting.

Anybody on here with an MSA rally license?

Maybe get a CGM which warns of dropping bg and gives an alarm, that may give you a bit more leverage? It does annoy me when things like this get in our (t1) way! Hope you get it sorted - jealous did a couple of rally experience days and loved it :-)

    Skiing

Never heard of lantus lasting 26 hours! More like 18 hours according to DSN which fits in with my own experience.

    Well, that was embarrassing....

Must admit it has knocked my confidence taking the kids out on my own! Unlike me as I have worked all over the world travelling on my own and never gave it a second thought.

My cyclist friend was on levemir and it seemed to work for him!

    Well, that was embarrassing....

Glad you ok, happened to me last Thursday when in town with my 6 year old son, when tested bg was 3.8 so must have been rocketing down. Caught with lucozade and dextrosol managed to prop myself up wall somehow but scary! Now know I had onset of chest infection so don't think that helped...

    Exercise and type 1

I met a t1 on my DAFNE course who cycled 30 to 50 miles every other day. He talked about his muscles grabbing back the next day causing low bg not sure what he meant by that and didn't ask too much as was pretty much in awe of this!

    Annual GP Diabetic appointment

Not impressed with GP and anything to do with my diabetes so never discuss with them. Had battles in the past where they wanted to move me onto cheaper meds so had to send in the DSN cavalry to give them a slap! Otherwise for general stuff they have been ok so not surprised by your comments.

    Exercise and type 1

A good tip also is not to exercise when your bg is in the teens or you risk your bg going higher quite rapidly especially if you are taking carbs as well. It is a bit of a balancing act and good to have lucozade sport to hand for any bad hypos as well as some longer acting carbs. There is an...

    Pancreas Transplants

It is never too late to improve control and avoid complications, some complications can even be reversed with tight control. Don't know about anyone else but definitely thought of pancreas transplant amongst many other "cures" over the years! Trying to maintain tight control until the next big...

    Carb counting - confused!

I do not count nuts and they have very little effect on bg levels, unless you eat excessive amounts! I use carbs and cals for carb counting and it is normally really accurate.

    Pump availability

I think I will prob end up travelling to other hosp may give my current clinic a month or two and if no progress I will ask to be referred. I am trying to get my hba1c right down but too close to hypo all the time unless I snack constantly or do not do too much exercise - guess that is the...

    The Great British Bake Off

Chocolate eclairs and most fresh cream cakes not too bad carb wise! Mind you just inject a bit more insulin if I fancy a treat every now and then!

    Pump availability

Yes all approved, nurses did say I could be referred to a different hospital where they have a specialist available only issue is that it is 30 miles away aaaarrrghhh!

    Pump availability

I went on DAFNE course in Feb with 10 other T1's who all wanted to go on a pump. We are all still waiting despite being approved by specialist. Now being told that the pump specialist has left and they are not replacing him until early next year. Anyone else had issues getting a pump and any...
