    Newly Diagnosed Type 2

Hi Szia, we were diagnosed on the same day! Give yourself a massive pat on the back! you're doing brilliantly. The morning readings are the last ones to fall, or, at least, that's been my experience. Most days now mine are in the 6s, but I still get a rogue 7, 8 or even 9 occasionally. For the...

Does having a hobby make you feel better

Definitely. I've suffered from depression and anxiety for years, and painting, drawing and knitting have been my saviours. Since my T2D diagnosis, I've started walking again, squeezing it into my daily commute or going out for a wander at lunchtime. Sometimes I plan a route because I want to...

    Feeling a bit isolated.

I found the same with my fasting readings to start with - they'd start off at about 8 or 9 and then come down during the day. It's normal for your body to fire off more glucose in the morning to give you energy to get out of bed. In time your fasting reading is likely to come down. We have to...

    Eating Late

This is interesting stuff. Yesterday I ate an enormous lunch (delicious low-carb tapas and a small glass of wine)and two hours later got a reading of 6.3. In the evening, still full from lunch, didn't bother with a proper evening meal so I had a handful of almonds and cherry tomatoes. This...

Oooer, a telling off - from the doctor's receptionist

I've decided to stay with this practice until after my next Hba1c (due November) and will insist on seeing Nice Doctor to discuss the results. I'll sign up for making online appointments too in the meantime and I am composing my letter of complaint to the practice manager. I may well go back to...

Type 2 Diet to help lower cholesterol levels

Good on you for not taking the statins. I refused them too as my cholesterol was only slightly over and I wanted to see if I could reduce it by diet alone. I didn't want to take something of dubious medical benefit that was very likely to make me feel awful anyway.

Oooer, a telling off - from the doctor's receptionist

@CarbsRok - I'm considering changing doctors altogether as my recent experiences with them - even before my diagnosis - have been terrible.

Oooer, a telling off - from the doctor's receptionist

Dear me! A reminder on my calendar flashed up this afternoon to make an appointment with the diabetes nurse for a couple of weeks' time (six weeks after my diagnosis). Because I was told to do so. So, like a good girl, I rang the doctor's to be told by the receptionist that I MUST have tablets...

What do you miss most from being diabetic

    Cake. Must investigate low-carb baking....

My first low carb meal with good bg result

That's a great result. Celebrate every success, no matter how small it seems. As to the icons, I wish I knew the answer. When I'm using my work PC I can see them, but there not there when I use the diabetes.co.uk app on my iPad.

They put what in our food!

I found a jar of Sainsbury's Massaman curry paste in the larder last night that I'd bought pre-diagnosis. It was a little shocking to see that the sugar content was 6.2g per serving. However, I wanted a curry, quickly, so I used what I needed anyway - just a little less than the stated 1/4 jar...

For Me: Forget Low Carb; What's To Do About Being A Food Addict?

I was a binge eater too and my T2 diagnosis was the colossal kick up the bum I needed. I'm also in a similar situation re having good chefs at work - I work in a conference and exhibitions venue and Leith's do the catering. Yesterday, the first time since my diagnosis a few weeks ago, I had one...

    Feeling a bit isolated.

Hi Moo63, and welcome. I'm still relatively new here too (diagnosed 19 August) but have found so much help and support on these forums and there are lots of other nuggets of information on the site itself. Having read your description of how you found out from your surgery makes me wonder if...

The container of strips I'm using at the moment has an expiry date of 28 February 2018, so I've splashed out for 10 boxes too. But even with the 10% rise after 1 October they'd still be excellent value and Home Health is an excellent company to buy from.
