    Low carb and high calorie

I thought the 'only eat red meat twice a week' had been dissed? It went with the idea that every 'balanced' meal was based on carbs as the main source of energy. You are at a disadvantage in that your partner is vegi - can you eat most of your meat out of her sight?

    Honey

6carbs a teaspoon doesn't sound very much. I was told honey was pure sugar and I might as well eat a spoonful of sugar because the carbs were the same - I have no way of knowing how many carbs there are in sugar either.

Pain relief in feet and fingers??

My diet is a bit complicated as I'm coeliac too and my GP is forever trying to push me towards yet another endoscopy - and after the last one I've refused to go for a repeat (another story). so I had a look on my bottle of pills, and Bruneria you are right - its a complex I'm taking - I hadn't...

Pain relief in feet and fingers??

Funny you should say that spendacat, I'm on a low carb diet - have been for years - and already take B12 (it turns my wee yellow/green which makes me think I'm just wasting it) so I may ask to be tested next time I go to the clinic. How are your painful itchy feet Nannoobird? Are you trying...

Pain relief in feet and fingers??

Wow Nanoobird, you're the only person I've come across who perfectly understands the problem and how, although its an itch, it can be horribly painful too. Scratching only damages the outer skin but doesn't reach the internal itch even if you scratch so hard you draw blood. My GP either...

Pain relief in feet and fingers??

Can't say I have, but I do have an itch/pain inside my hands and feet which is excruciating at times. By 'inside' I mean its not on the skin like a rash but somewhere in the tissues where you can't reach :inpain:

    Type 2 overwhelmed and lost

Joandollie, you seem to be on the right way to success, and I understand a bad cold can give worrying readings so maybe let us know how you're doing in a few days when you're feeling better. AndBreathe, I had to scroll back, as I thought, from what you wrote, that I'd mistakenly make a...

    Type 2 overwhelmed and lost

Oh dear. My bible is based on LCHF which stands for Lowb Carb High Fat which your Slimming World instructor will not be happy about - the thinking being that we need the higher fat content to give energy as we're cutting down very severely on carbs. Some people (me included) have found losing...

    Low Carb Cooking Class

I like thinking of ways to make the meals I usually cook for the family as low carb as possible. Such as mashed cauliflower instead of potato mash, and using cream as a thickener instead of roux sauces. I love different recipes but with a husband who is suspicious of spices I am somewhat...

    Type 2 overwhelmed and lost

Oh my dear, I'm not surprised you're feeling overwhelmed and I'm sorry I have no answers - but one thing you will get from all of us on here is empathetic suggestions and constructive help. I don't know if there is a specific test for diabetes type 2 apart from abnormally high blood sugar...

    Couscous

I cook it then mash it with butter and cream - tastes like potato mash. I really, really don't like couscous.

Why oh why did I ever stop...?!

What is it they say? Hell is other people or something? Not that I'm wishing my family away of course. It really would be unfair to expect everyone else to take on a diabetic lifestyle, although it would be nice if they offered. You seem very determined, be prepared for the headaches and such...

Why oh why did I ever stop...?!

Mmmm fried eggss - could add a little bacon ....... be better with some fried bread too though! Mop up those juices (no wonder I'm not losing weight).

Why oh why did I ever stop...?!

Its the evenings that are my downfall. I try to find things to do, places to go , anything rather than slumping in front of the tv and pigging out. Nuts and cheeese can only satisfy for a short time - and then the chocolate, crisps and biscuits call, without the G&Ts. Its no good banning...

    Reverse type 2 diabetes

Its almost exactly the same advice as in Dr Cavan's book How to Reverse your Diabetes - but I understand it only applies to Type 2s. Its almost impossible to live your life with only as few as 20g carbs a day - unless you never eat out and have a very strong will - but it does help, and your...

    Pasta from legume flour

I have packets and packets of GF pasta from supermarkets and it tastes like floppy cardboard (not that I eat much cardboard) :)

    Newbie with lots of questions

Personally I don't like Oopsie bread - it tastes too 'eggy'. We stick with Bergen with soya and linseed but strictly limited. A boiled cauliflower head, mashed with feta cheese (or any cheese you have) and butter is almost indistinguishable from potato mash (you can also use celariac but its...

    LCHF versus family

My DIL is the leader of a 'fitness' group and, supposedly, trained in nutrition. No matter that she's ruined one of her knees she advocates running 5 miles a day and living on a diet of smoothies which add up to 800cals a day, i call her stupid but thin (in my mind of course) and continue my...
