    Goji berry nut bars

Hello everyone. I'm looking to make a nut bar for snaking. I've heard goji berries are better for blood sugars and would like to include them in a nut bar. I was thinking of using as a binder like one would use dates. I need some help with a recipe and how to get the berries soft and sticky. I...

    Lower carb bread

Thanks @tpaz. I did get a bunch of items from them. I got the bread and the bagels. The bread isn't bad. Had a bit of a sour dough taste which I like. Only problem is how chewy it is. I haven't tried the bagels yet. Also picked up a box of Carbquik. Haven't tried it either but I'm...

LCHF - sprouted whole grains for bread making.

I'm also after that elusive low carb bread that is actually like bread. So far no success. When you say low carb what's your limit of carbs per slice? Personally I'm going for anything around the 6 to 8 grams. I would like to have 2 pieces with breakfast and between 15 and 20 grams seems to...

    high morning levels

Wish we could get that in Canada. All I've been able to find is a few news articles about the Abbott Freestyle Libre. Health Canada won't even say if they are testing it yet. Is someone willing to ship one to me you can just bill Health Canada. I'm sure they wont' mind paying :)

    The SCREAM thread

@Sable_Jan Thanks for the encouragement. I would like to say the stress level is lower but it's just going up up up! Today I got hauled on to the carpet because I haven't been labelling my filing properly. Didn't occur to them that I've been doing this way for almost 3.5 years and nobody told...

Low carb don't get enough fibre

Just watching the morning news and they are talking about bowl problems. The lady (not a doctor or dietitian but is a pharmacist) says us low carb eaters don't get enough fibee. Not sure about the rest of you but i get tons of fiber from vegg and my low carb breads. Most carbs I take in ate...

    Just saw my doc

I'm really going to reserve judgement for a while. He did say as we where leaving the exam room that he was surprised to see me. He was expecting me to be in denial of the diagnosis, which i was for a bit. He said he normally doesn't see his diabetic patients for over a year after diagnosis with...

    Lower carb bread

I wish i was in a metro area. I live in a small town int the middle of the prairies. Im abot 2.5 hours east of Edmonton. When i do get to the city i try and check out a few places but i only get there about once every couple of months. For now amazon is my friend. My local co-op still wants 16...

    The SCREAM thread

So I just have to rant. More of a why the hell did I do that type. So I was running late this morning. I had my blood taken for my first check up since being diagnosed. The whole thing took longer then I wanted so I was a bit late to get to the office. Well I was also famished from fasting...

    Milk

Here in Canada the milk I purchase all seems to have 12g carbs (12g sugar). Thats 1%, 2% and 3.5%. Skim has 13g. Now granted the fat content does vary. Is it only the fat content that changes the sugar percentage?

    Lower carb bread

Okay so I tried out this bread and wow is it chewy. Even toasted it was hard to swallow. So I guess I'm on to the next loaf. I'm thinking of trying Gibi's low carb bread next.

    Just saw my doc

I'm not down on doctors. Lets face it a GP has to know a little about a lot of topics. Enough to know there is a problem then refer to a specialist if needed. My dietitian was all about the food triangle and seemed more concerned with how much I was eating. Now granted I was over eating. I...

    Just saw my doc

I just saw my doc to get a new Metformin & coversyl prescriptions renewed as it's been just over 3 months since diagnosis. First thing he says to me is that he's surprised I'm there. Aparently he was sure I wouldn't be back for at least a year if not more. He said most patients are in so much...

    Low carb waffles...

Has any one here heard of Carbquik? It's available on Amazon Canada. I heard it makes not bad waffles. I ordered some and I'll try it out when it gets here. https://www.amazon.ca/Carbquik-Baking-Mix-Now-lb/dp/B005YVU6FY

    Lower carb bread

In Canada it's the same as the UK by the sounds of it. My dietician says to deduct the fibre from the carbs. But back to the bread (sorry this thread took a turn). I'm not against using almond flour along with soy and other LC flours. Problem I've heard is that most can't give that same...

    Lower carb bread

I bought a couple of ebooks for low carb breads. They all look good but... Almond flour is really expensive where i am so i would like to use it a bit more sparingly. Also they call for white bean flour which is only slightly better then wheat flour. So what im looking for is guidance on using...

    Rant alert

I completely understand what your saying. Yesterday my office ordered in pizza for everyone. I didn't want to feel left out so I joined in. I had once slice (because it's white bread) and for my other two pieces I just took the toppings off and ate them with a knife and fork. I wish I would...

Do UK Dietitians have their Head in the same place as the Aussies ?

I'm also in Canada (Alberta) and my doc got me an appointment with a dietitian also. She gave me some papers on controlling blood sugars and what to eat when your type 2. Over all it was good advice but the recommended 200 to 250g of carbs a day it recommends was about 150 to 200 to high for...
