    pass the sick bucket please

I had to stop taking Simvastatin as it was giving me dreadful muscle pains.... I would geniunely struggle to get out of bed and walk down the stairs in the morning!! I'm fine (ish) on Metformin. If I eat too many carbs I get horrendous dioherea and stomach cramps, but as I'm low carb now I...

    Aspartame

I'm sorry but i have to disagree! I have worked in cancer services and several consultants believe that aspartame is carcenogenic. Personally, I wouldn't touch the stuff. Sucralose and Stevia are the only suitable sweeteners in my mind, and Sainsburys own diet drinks contain these and don't...

    Moody daughter

Well this has made very interesting reading!! Only yesterday I was very irritable and angry with my OH, and I also had rather high blood sugars as I'm on my way out of a virus

    Scary incident

I'm fine drinking wine, my levels stay steady. But then when I drink wine it's always a glass of wine or two with a meal. Last night I had a rare skinful of shorts..... Woke up about an hour ago feeling 'strange' and very hungry....tested my BS and they were much higher than I'd have expected...

    Am I diabetic type 2?

I think it would be worth seeing your GP and seeing if you could get a glucose tolerance test if you are worried, especially after having gestational diabetes.

    D D D, Dear ( Diabetes) Diary

Dear diary, Why did you have to hide? You should have let me know that you were there sooner. Knowing that you are a friend of the family, I should have guessed you'd want to stay with me. I just wished I knew you were there sooner before you got spiteful at my not noticing you and you...

    BMs & pain / trauma

Stress can affect it, so may well be the stress of the accident and trauma to your body.

    Slightly erratic readings.

Don't know! I'm in the same boat as you, recently diagnosed, low carbing and finding my way. I've lost about half a stone now, but I suspect I'll put a bit on this week, as I have a stinking cold so can't cycle and my GP has told me to up my carbs until I'm better!

type 2 wrist bands? any piont?

Depends on how you conduct your life really. I cycle a lot, and even though I'm on Metformin, not insulin, I still have a medi bracelet for peace of mind.... If I had a nasty fall and hit my head, I'd rather the emergency services knew and had an emergency number to call. I dont wear one...

Have you been under the weather? That could be a cause?

Having a cold and blood sugar confusion

Well, over 60 of you have read this and not one of you has responded so I spoke to my specialist diabetic GP instead. For the benefit of anyone who may find themselves in my predicament I will provide the advice my GP has given me. When you have viruses, your body needs more energy to fight...

Having a cold and blood sugar confusion

At the moment I have a stinking cold. Sore throat, runny nose, congestion, headache etc etc Everything I have read says that my blood sugars are likely to go up whilst I'm fighting the infection. However, whilst I am having higher than normal morning readings, I'm finding that my ad hoc...

    Footcare - Veruccas

    Lemon oil works a treat.

    Which is easier?

I'd agree with Brett. Whilst the life changes may not be so drastic when you are younger, as you haven't established routines, I think the peer pressure must be dreadful. At 8 or 9 to have sweets and cakes at friends parties, at 12 or 13 picking up a can of pop and an ice cream whilst out with...

    Exercising

I cycle 4-5 times a week, typically an hour at a time. I make sure my BS is 5 or higher before I go, and I take my cycling drink with me which is a 200ml carton of apple juice topped up to 600mls with water. This gives me just enough sugar to keep my BS above 5 whilst I do my cycle. I'm a...

    Its always embarrassing when..

There is a charity cake bake at work, and people think you ate a tight **** for not buying a cupcake! (There have been two in the last fortnight in my office, I still stuck money in the jar as they were good causes.... Just didn't have the obvious cake wrapper sat on my desk!)

    Alcohol

I'm typing this whilst drinking my second glass of white wine. I'm on Metformin and have been drinking in moderation fine :D

Can I really lose weight eating this way

I've lost nearly half a stone since my diagnosis a month ago, but am eating more calories!! However, I am keeping my carbs low and am eating more cheese and nuts than I ever did before. Who'd have thought it hey! :P

Is this man with diabetes fit for work?

I still find it shocking that these ATOS assessors are not medically trained. How can an admin staff member accurately assess a persons ability to work or if their illness is too severe. A friend of mine has cancer, he's needing an amputation and he was pronounced fit for work a few weeks back...

Who saw the channel 4 programme yesterday?

I agree with this completely :D What they said on the programme, broadcast to the masses, was both misleading and dangerous to the show participants and the general publics perceptions. It certainly did imply that the young girl could return to going out on benders with her friends, eating...
