    Inspiration for Dinner tonight

Yes I have been looking at what happens to peoples' liver function tests on the low carb diet - so far after nearly 70 patients very significant improvements. I suspect glucose and alcohol act similarly on the liver. If I can just get the work published will prepare a new post for you all on this.

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Just had a text to point out our approach has been given quite a fulsome write up in todays Telegraph- appropriately under Doctor's diary which is encouraging. It may be a long time until we see a change in the official guidelines but meanwhile I feel the benefits of the diet are spreading...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Yes I am part of the medical establishment and see the benefits of the approach just as you explain on a daily basis and yet it's so very difficult to break through the existing dogma. However gradually the approach is spreading and at least now many professionals accept its fair for patients to...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Tim I agree the idea of being free to choose is important - On balance I have more energy and feel fitter of carbs -weighing up how much I enjoy them against feeling well, I realize any enjoyment is fleeting ( and the longer I am low carb the less I miss them) and so I do without the carbs. Mind...

Its official 'insulin plays an important role in sodium metabolism. The primary action of insulin on sodium balance is exerted on the kidney. Increases in plasma insulin concentration within the physiological range stimulate sodium reabsorption, and this effect is independent of changes in...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Thanks for that - also I suppose a low carb diet may well have fewer processed foods in it that tend to be higher in salt. I now have the stats on 67 low carbers it would be interesting to look at before and after sodium levels - isn't insulin interesting !

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

As regards the excellent Roy Taylor I have put a reply on the thread you mention. Out of the nearly 70 patients I have stats on, both their average total cholesterol and cholesterol ratios improves significantly on the low carb diet .Annoyingly our lab don't do triglyceride levels routinely and...

Is type 2 reversible with Prof Roy Taylor

As a HCP who heard Prof Taylor speak earlier this year at a DUK conference I would say that you have an excellent summary there. Prof Taylor is a charming man and last year went out of his way to help me in my low-carb research. He has thrown a lot of light on the role of glucose in producing...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

I have just checked and the average weight loss stands at 9.2 kg A common pattern is to loose steadily then 'fall off the wagon' for a bit then move on with some lessons learnt and so on till one finds a steady diet that suits I find carb creep and weight gain a more frequent problem than...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Heavens we are getting to complex stuff now - I find myself on less certain ground Most of the folk with type two diabetes I have talked to expect that going low carb is a lifelong lifestyle choice and that when they get down to their target weight they may have more fat to avoid further...

Yes we did the cholesterol ratios on a regular basis and there were significant improvements in the first group of patients - and about fifty more since then -despite a diet higher in fat

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

As its part of research and also very interesting and motivating for folk to know how they are doing most of the participants have their HbA1c, chol including the ratio and liver function done about every 12 weeks Around last Christmas several of the participants did suffer 'carb creep' and...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

A valid point but we found that in the context of most of the patients were trying to loose weight this didn't seem to be a problem ,also fat on its own without carbs would seem to be less appetising
