    Type 1 depressed and neuropathy.

the max dose of gabapentin is a max of 3600mg/day so you can increase your dose (consult with your dr first!) there are also newer drugs that can have a better effect, for example pregabalin (Lyrica). The doses are lower and the side effects are often fewer so worth looking at. Other things to...

    Flu jab

I always get the flu jab and have never had an issue with it, I work with immunosuppressed people so I feel it's especially important for me to have plus if you are in regular contact with vulnerable people like the elderly or children then you are protecting them as well as yourself. I had...

Are all T1 Diabetics treated the same by the NHS?

In comparison I've had a really easy time with my team, they bought up the subject of a pump many times before I decided to go for it, I get appointments when I need them and my DSN is always on the end of a phone or an email. I can't get CGM but thats normal for the NHS and I wouldn't consider...

Problems using Paradigm Infusion Quick Set

I have recently moved to sure-Ts and have had no issues with it becoming detached, if anything I find the connection is too secure! This may sound like a silly question but are you sure you're clicking it in properly? You should hear a loud click. The other thing is maybe it's a dodgy batch...

    Changing Basal Rate

I was taught to change the basal 2 hours before when you wanted it to take effect so about 4am would be a good starting point but it may well take some trial and error!

How many different basal rates in a day?

I have 9 different rates varying from shed loads in the morning to barely nothing at night. I have 3 different basal patterns set up for work days, work nights and days off

    What is the Best Pump?

Both the animas and the medtronic have + and - The animas uses dexcom sensors which appear to be more cost effective as you can keep them going for ages but it is an older pump (?rumours of a new one in the future) The Medtronic 640g is a bit all singing and dancing but the sensors only last 6...

    Canula sites

Possibly the cannula is in a blood vessel ( it doesn't need to be a big one) as the saying goes.... "If in doubt change it out!"

    high bloods after changing site

Have you tried leaving the old cannula in place for a few hours after changing to a new one so that the insulin from that site gets absorb properly?

    Type 1 - 12 years!

If it's been wrongly stored (either in transit or by pharmacist) then it loses a lot of potency or is there a chance it's frozen at some point in your fridge? I hope this is the problem as it means it's a really easy fix! If not then some basal testing is needed. If your basal needs have gone...

Maybe a dodgy batch of insulin? Have you tried any from a different batch number?

Type 1 Diabetes is killing me

Pumps are great yes but they do take a lot of commitment especially with carb counting and testing. IMO until the OP has decided to make a change and has taken the first steps to do this then a pump will not be a useful thing and in fact can be pretty dangerous. Baby steps is the way to go...

martinis will be low sugar, or something like a long island ice tea and ask them to use diet coke. Could do this for a black russian too

BG suddenly jumping late afternoon/early evening??

I would suggest starting off with a 50/50 split 12 hours apart and see how it goes, the good thing about levemir is that you can see how the changes affect you quickly unlike lantus which you have to wait a few days. You may well have to do some basal testing too. You are on a very low dose...

BG suddenly jumping late afternoon/early evening??

Are you taking levemir once or twice a day? If only once then it could well be running out

    Shift Work

I rotate between days and nights have have a completely different basal regimen, it's not perfect and as my activity levels on a night shift vary widely I still find myself using temporary basals quite often. Basal testing on a night shift is a pain but worth doing
