Hello.

I have been a type one diabetic for 12 years. My management has been good until the last few weeks. i take 35 units Lantus (morning) and carb count during the day first meal 8u second 6u units third 7u and supper 9u. I always keep my value of carbs the same (Oats and Baby boils) and rotate protein and Veg so i don't get bored. The last few weeks my blood has been really high and taken extreme amounts of insulin to keep it down for example i injected over 80 units today. I feel like my body is resisting my insulin can anyone help? :*( My last hab1c was 6.1.

If it's been wrongly stored (either in transit or by pharmacist) then it loses a lot of potency or is there a chance it's frozen at some point in your fridge? I hope this is the problem as it means it's a really easy fix! If not then some basal testing is needed. If your basal needs have gone up as well then the problem sounds like resistance, if your basal is fine then I would be leaning more towards a problem with your insulin or possibly your sites

Besides the insulin check are you 100% sure that your pens are delivering the insulin? Check your cartridge isn't cracked and also make sure your needles are OK. I believe you can squirt 20 units into your cap pen as a measure. Other members who use pens can explain this to you. @noblehead

I have changed both Novo and Lantus batch this morning. I have moved inject sites from upper leg to lower thigh. Bs was high this morning went to bed with a 6.2 and woke up with a 20.0) contacting diabetes doctor today. :hungover:

Have you done something recently that might have increased your insulin resistance?

I would be getting new pens and a new box of cartridges - possibly getting from a different chemist- just in case...and checking fridge temperature.

If corrections are lowering then it maybe that the basal need is shooting up for some reason- but its finding out the reason. Ie perhaps with hormones changing?

Worthwhile speaking to professionals. Maybe that there is someting going on in body that can be checked out by blood tests? Has there been any change in your physical routine?

No i am like a robot i get up at 6.00am, Go to gym, And eat all my meals at fixed times. < This is the only way for me personally to keep good control.

Then see your GP / Nurse etc.. Maybe something going on that blodtests may show up...

I would change the insulin cartridges and then the pens if that didn't resolve matters, failing all that do as DD suggests and speak with your diabetes team.

Have you changed (gym) routine/intensity or stopped training?

I work out religiously, but when I stop/take a break from training for a few days, my Insulin sensitivity decreases significantly. I typically need just over double the insulin.

Just throwing this into the mix... if there is an ongoing insulin resistance issue then Metformin may help a bit. I have read that some T1s are on Metformin for this reason.
