Not taking insulin, but normal BG's? opinions please! :)

I started to low carb and still need small amounts of insulin to process the proteins which will be turned into a source of glucose in your body in the absence of carbs. Also there are small amounts of carbs in veggies which need processing. I am not expert but I would have thought that you...

    Energy drink?

Take one spoon of sugar, a pinch of salt and some diluted cordial, put in bottle hey presto "sports drink" The lungs give oxygen to muscles, not a drink. I am surprised your doctor never told you this.... Unless you are doing incredibly high impact sports then try a banana and drink plenty of...

T1 DM and going to a Third World Country Advice please

I think the only vaccination I had to pay for was yellow fever, can't remember the price but google should tell you. The anti-malarial was the expensive one, I took malarone which gave me no problems but you need to check which one is advised for Kenya. I'm a nurse and I work in both Egypt...

T1 DM and going to a Third World Country Advice please

    1) Where I will be able to store the insulin (have yet to determine this) where will you be staying? A lot of Kenya has electricity, fridges etc. Remember that insulin can stay out the fridge for a month (especially if you use a frio or something similar in hot temperatures) 2) Access to...

    Probably newly diagnosed-blood results bad

Re: Probably nrewly diagnosed-blood results bad Whilst 34 is indeed hyper, I would suggest that the threshold is far lower. Blood glucose of 3.5 mmols is considered normal in non diabetics (albeit the low side of normal) If you are getting unexplained lows, especially without taking any...

    Squirting blood!

I have done this several times, usually when wearing white clothing. Once I was lying on my sofa and it looked like a mini murder with a fine spray of blood on the wall! I must admit I am guilty of the squeeze before I've even checked to see if I am bleeding. The prick n squeeze manoeuvre. I...

    Funny hypo moments (in retrospect)

If it was hypoglycaemia then it would seem unlikely that you were diabetic as it is high blood sugars not low that manifests itself. Hypo's in diabetics is caused by medication used to control high blood sugars (like insulin) However it could have been a number of other things including low...

Any healthy options for getting rid of a hypo?

Either fruit juice or (my fave) about 150 mls of Innocent smoothie but has to be either the kiwi, apple and lime or the peach and apricot flavour as I am not a banana fan at all, particularly when hypo!

Withdrawal of BD Micro-Fine pen needles

http://www.ppa.org.uk/edt/August_2013/mindex.htm If you search for BD 4mm it brings up the right page. There is not a huge amount of difference in price between the needles, 4mm are same price as 5mm. Personally I wouldn't mind if I got a cheaper version, as long as they are 4mm and fit my pens!

Withdrawal of BD Micro-Fine pen needles

    Coma & other things

Why should you? Well prevention is better than cure that's why! If complications get caught early then they can be far easier and quicker (and cheaper) to treat as well as lowering the risk of long term disability. That being said it's your choice and your health. If everything is well...
